Across the University of Mary campus, Collegians for Life is one of many successful student groups and has become known for its steady presence, heartfelt service, and unwavering commitment to building a Culture of Life. Over the last several years, they have grown into one of the most active and influential pro‑life groups in Bismarck — and North Dakota in general — consistently leading peer‑to‑peer ministry and inspiring fellow students through both action and example. Their work has shaped the campus community in meaningful ways, and their recent efforts highlight just how dedicated they are to serving others with joy and purpose.
Their leadership shines most visibly each January as the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C., approaches. The Collegians for Life play a central role in rallying the student body, spreading the word, and encouraging their peers to take part in the pilgrimage. Thanks to their enthusiasm, personal outreach, and genuine passion for the cause, the University of Mary once again brought hundreds of students to the March this year. Their ability to mobilize such a large and diverse group of students speaks to the trust and respect they’ve earned on campus.
But the March for Life is only the beginning of their yearly momentum. February has become one of their busiest and most impactful months, filled with service projects, community partnerships, and opportunities for meaningful conversation.
Early in the month, the group participated in Giving Hearts Day, one of North Dakota’s largest charitable initiatives. Members volunteered to make cold calls to raise funds for pro‑life organizations across the state. It’s the kind of behind‑the‑scenes work that doesn’t always get attention, but it plays a crucial role in sustaining the mission of many local nonprofits.
Their creativity and compassion were also on display during a project to paint tote bags for the mothers at St. Gianna’s Maternity Home. Students gathered to design and decorate the bags with care, knowing that these personal touches can bring encouragement to women facing challenging circumstances. The project blended artistry with service, offering a tangible reminder of support to the moms who will receive them.
In the spirit of spreading kindness, the group also organized a project to create Valentine’s Day cards for moms in need throughout the Bismarck community. These handwritten notes were filled with encouragement and warmth, offering a simple but meaningful reminder that these women are seen and supported. The project captured the group’s ability to blend joy with mission in a way that resonates with students and community members alike.
One of the most powerful moments of the month came when the Collegians welcomed a speaker from PALS (Post‑Abortive Ladies). Her testimony was honest, vulnerable, and deeply moving. Students listened attentively, asked thoughtful questions, and engaged with her story with compassion and respect. The evening grounded the group’s activism in real human experience, reminding everyone present of the importance of empathy in pro‑life work.
What sets the Collegians for Life apart is not just the number of events they host, but the spirit with which they approach each one. Their leadership under their executive team is steady rather than flashy, rooted in genuine care for the people they serve. They consistently show that building a culture of life is not about grand gestures, but about showing up, offering support, and creating community.
Even after a full January and February, the group is already preparing for a busy spring. March and April are filling up with new service projects, educational opportunities, and community partnerships. Their forward‑looking energy reflects a deep commitment to continuing their mission throughout the entire academic year.
For all these reasons, SFLA is proud to recognize The Collegians for Life as the Group of the Month. Their dedication, compassion, and leadership have made a lasting impact on campus and beyond. They embody what it means to serve with conviction and joy, and their work continues to inspire the entire UMary community.
