With Election Day coming tomorrow, Students for Life President Kristan Hawkins took to her keyboard to make it clear: if the Republicans lose elections, the pro-life movement will not be their scapegoat.
In an op-ed for the Washington Examiner, Hawkins details the stark political reality we live in: a crazed death-centric Democrat party and a GOP that sits on the sidelines and watches it happen.
The Democratic party’s radical abortion push is in full swing with a massive rollout of propaganda. The ACLU has spent $25 million, Planned Parenthood has spent $47 million, and Reproductive Freedom for All has spent $23.5 million on pro-death advertising this election season, urging Americans to support politicians who want to end the lives of humanity’s most vulnerable population: preborn children. They want it until the moment of birth — and some want it after.
Meanwhile, Hawkins notes that the American public is not on board with this plan.
Hawkins wrote:
According to a Students for Life/SurveyUSA poll released earlier this year, fewer than 1 in 10 registered youth voters support the Democratic Party’s position on abortion. Almost 7 in 10 support laws limiting abortion.
Perhaps even more telling, a large percentage of youth abortion supporters were willing to change their views if women get help. A full 34% of those polled said they’d be more willing to accept abortion limits if the government increased its support for mothers, children, and families. And after learning more about Planned Parenthood’s malpractice (from sources no less liberal than the New York Times itself), support for the abortion vendor dropped a full 13 percentage points.
In the face of an electorate begging for pro-life action, what have Republicans done about it? As Hawkins points out, not enough, and that is what is truly costing them support.
Hawkins wrote:
Over the last two years of the Trump administration and GOP leadership did accomplish the “Big, Beautiful Bill” that cut funding for one year to abortion vendors like Planned Parenthood. It was magnificent. And then Planned Parenthood got it back this July. Meanwhile, all the federal agency authority to address the life-and-death issue of chemical abortion pill trafficking gathers dust. That kind of lethargy can translate into voter apathy.
Meanwhile, Hawkins led the pro-life movement across the country through churches, door knocking, ad campaigns, speaking events, and beyond to make sure innocent preborn children are not forgotten this election cycle. She hopes the GOP will begin to embrace that attitude, too.
On top of financial realities weighing on voters, Hawkins calls for the Republican party to give a hand to the pro-life movement that has loyally followed it with far too little return on their investment. If the Democratic party can embrace anti-life policies with open arms, why can’t the GOP openly fight to save preborn children?
