Title IX (Nine) Prevents Sexual Discrimination against Women & Girls at School, But Had Been Under Attack for Radical Redefinition

“The Biden Administration’s Department of Education (DOE) attempted to twist the meaning of male and female in such a way as to write women out of existence,” said Students for Life’s Kristan Hawkins. “We joined a large coalition to protect women’s rights at school and to prevent using DOE policy to erase women’s needs for those who merely claim to be one. Using schools to force confusion undermines the very reason education exists as well as undercuts Title IX’s goal of helping women be safe and receive fair treatment, especially when they are pregnant or parenting.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. (09-29-2026) – Students for Life of America (SFLA) President Kristan Hawkins noted that the Department of Education (DOE) will no longer use Title IX (Nine) protections to actually trample women’s rights “the kind of good news women and girls at schools need.” SFLA engaged in a major effort to protect Title IX when the Biden Administration proposed twisting it from protecting women & girls to forcing an agenda that rejects differences between men and women. Through our efforts to support women and girls at school, Students for Life’s Standing with You resource includes the Pregnant and Parenting Bill of Rights, based on Title IX protections and vital for women balancing school and family.

As we reported: “At Students for Life of America, we have the Pregnant on Campus Initiative which exists so that no woman ever feels like she needs to choose between her child and her education. Our goal is to reduce abortion rates among students by promoting life-affirming resources like childcare, scholarship opportunities, and material support (like diapers or baby clothes). And we also work toward policy changes on campus to create a culture that ensures that the rights of pregnant and parenting are being upheld. The Pregnant on Campus Initiative has created a Pregnant on Campus Bill of Rights to help students learn about and prevent pregnancy discrimination.”

The policy announced today by the DOE holds to the original intent, and as the DOE reported in its announcement, the department “formally rescinded the Biden Administration’s illegal regulation implementing Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX). Today’s action officially reinstates the first Trump Administration’s 2020 Title IX rule in the Code of Federal Regulations, providing clear guidance for parents, students, and educational institutions on the legal requirements of Title IX.”

Students for Life Joined a Massive Effort to Keep Title IX Focused on Protecting Women & Girls.

As we previously reported, “Title IX is a law that was passed in 1972 that prohibited sex discrimination in education, which initially opened doors for women such as in sports. The actual verbiage of Title IX is: “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”
