Nicholas Cech, one of the National Leaders Collective’s (NLC) leaders of the month, is a Students for Life of America (SFLA), William Wilberforce Fellow attending Ohio State University in Lima, Ohio.  Learn more about Cech’s activism below.

The abortion industry and mainstream media spread so many misconceptions about abortion, poisoning our culture against the sanctity of life, which is one of the main reasons I joined the pro-life movement. The culture has convinced women that aborting their precious children is the key to success and staying competitive with men.

This harmful lie has worked to separate the beauty of motherhood from pregnancy and treat pregnancy as a weakness instead of a gift unique to women. Not to mention the regret both men and women feel after going through an abortion. I decided I wanted to be on the front lines of this issue to help women reclaim pregnancy as something incredible and holy, not a disease needing a cure.

I have been a part of Students for Life of America (SFLA) for four years. I have since had the chance to be a vice president of an SFLA group, later a president of a high school group, and eventually a founder and president of a college group. As president of my SFLA group, I was honored to be accepted into the William Wilberforce fellowship. I applied for William Wilberforce to sharpen my mind and understand the pro-life issue inside and out. Through the program, I learned what it takes to lead the movement effectively into a future career.

My first and proudest achievement includes creating a podcast with my cousin to encourage young people in our area to connect with pro-life media. We had the chance to interview people who worked in the movement, discuss conversion stories, and discuss apologetics. Secondly, I’m proud to be a William Wilberforce fellow. Since joining the fellowship, I shifted my pro-life for the better. Lastly and most importantly, taking up Ohio’s Regional Coordinator for Students for Life of America (SFLA) role has been a dream since I first met the previous regional coordinator. I now have the honor of helping all of the future pro-life leaders in Ohio grow and gain the skills they need to be successful.

My experience with the William Wilberforce fellowship gave me the boost I needed to obtain my pro-life goals. Thanks to the fellowship, I am now excited to see what kind of impact I can make across my state as a full-time pro-life activist.
