Allison Clements, one of the National Leaders Collective’s (NLC) leaders of the month, is a Hildegard Art Fellow attending Grand Canyon University in Arizona. The NLC is for high school or college students interested in pursuing and working in the pro-life movement. Strobel is one of those students who gained the confidence to speak out on pro-life issues at his high school and community.  Learn more about Clement’s activism below:

I was raised in a household where pro-life values have continually been instilled in me. My little brother and I were both adopted as infants, and we were adopted into a family that raised us with Christian values. With my strong pro-life background and getting involved with my college’s Students for Life of America (SFLA) group, I hope to one day be a leader in the pro-life movement by reforming the foster care and adoption system.

As a leader, I’ve grown tremendously in my confidence in expressing my pro-life beliefs and involvement in the pro-life movement. I didn’t find my SFLA group; they found me. One day, I saw them tabling at the club fair for freshmen, and about halfway through the year, I joined their leadership team and became vice president.

But my pro-life involvement was far from over. After attending the 2023 National Leadership Collective Kick Off Weekend, where my club was nominated for College Group of the Year, I knew I could do more. So, I researched SFLA’s different programs and eventually settled on the Hildegard Art Fellowship. My entire life, I’ve always wanted to become an author, and I see the importance of how art, whether written or visual, can impact our culture. The Hildegard Fellowship recognizes this when it comes to changing the hearts and minds of people, and I knew it was the right one for me.

My top three pro-life accomplishments in 2024 include:

1. Hosting a pro-life panel. During the spring semester, the other club officers and I attempted to brainstorm new ideas for club events. One of the topics brought up in meetings was the debate surrounding politics in the church. That’s where we formed the idea to have an event surrounding similar to that but about abortion. We had a local pastor, pregnancy director, our regional coordinator, and the director of spiritual life at our school come together for a panel discussion. The discussion, titled “Should Christians Speak Out Against Abortion?” was our biggest meeting of the year. It’s my favorite event that we’ve ever hosted.

2. Demonstrating a live ultrasound. This past semester, we brought a local pregnancy center to campus. While our group members were comfortable defending their positions, they needed more knowledge regarding a baby’s development. A local pregnant came to campus and demonstrated a live ultrasound on one of their volunteers from their clinic, which amazed our group. It was incredible to see everyone’s faces as they watched the baby’s developing feet kick and cement why we do what we do.

3. Recruiting 200 new group members. Most recently, we had our first club fair of this year. Given that it was at a different time than the past couple of years, we came into the club fair with moderate expectations. After four hours of hard work, we recruited 200 new members. We’re excited to see how those numbers fluctuate throughout the rest of this year, but it’s incredible to know that we have so many like-minded people on our campus.

Being an NLC leader has been an absolute blast. I met so many fun people at the kickoff in Washington, D.C., which also fueled my excitement for this year. I’ve hit the ground running this year, ready to make a big change on my campus. All the different tools I’ve collected, especially being a campus coordinator, have made me a more competent and confident leader.

I look forward to significantly impacting the pro-life movement in the upcoming election.
