Abortion Group Criticizes Lack of Accountability for $500 Million Donated to Pregnancy Centers—What About Demanding Accountability from Planned Parenthood?

One abortion group seems to be unhappy with the presumed “lack of accountability” for Pregnancy Health Centers (PHC). Still, they seem to raise no issue with Planned Parenthood’s alleged shady business dealings.

A recent CBS article highlighted a report from Equity Forward, a nonprofit organization dedicated to human rights (except in the case of preborn babies), gender equity (while ignoring the rise of sex selection in America), and “reproductive rights” – basically, abortion, abortion, and abortion.

And they have an obvious and vested interest in bringing down PHCs, which they called “Anti-Abortion Centers.” Their July 2024 report identifies public funds given to PHCs in 23 states, according to the CBS report, which states, “The study found that since 1995, those states sent more than $1 billion in taxpayer funds to such centers and that nearly half of that money, or $489 million, was appropriated in the last two years. Many of the states dramatically increasing their financial support of these groups are the same ones restricting access to abortion.”

Wouldn’t that be a good thing since abortion supporters cry that pro-life advocates don’t want to support women during pregnancy? One would think they’d be jumping for joy, but no. If it’s not abortion, they don’t like it.

“At least a billion dollars that could have gone to improve maternal health and provide direct support to parents and families was instead poured into the coffers of organizations that face little to no oversight and fail to show a positive impact,” Equity Forward Executive Director Ashley Underwood said as she criticized pro-life leaning states for not giving the funds to “evidence-based programs.”

If Underwood is referring to evidence-based programs funded or supported by Planned Parenthood, it’s a hard pass, and for more reasons than one. This same organization, and many others like it, that demand “accountability” isn’t in the least concerned about Planned Parenthood being held accountable or transparent with taxpayers.

While Planned Parenthood has tried to downplay abortion death deals, saying it was only 3% of its total services, National Review reports that 2023 “is the second-most abortions that Planned Parenthood has performed in its history and represents approximately 40 percent of the abortions performed in the United States.”

And while they’re complaining about the $500 million given to PHCs since 1995, what about the $2.3 billion given to Planned Parenthood in two years? Even more recently, does anyone care about the video of a Planned Parenthood employee discussing sales of aborted baby parts? If they care about accountability, they should.

Let’s not forget that we still don’t have a National Abortion Reporting law.

If they want to be consistent, they should demand what’s been previously mentioned: Planned Parenthood and abortion vendor accountability.

Suppose they care so deeply about maternal health. What about the peer-reviewed study in the International Journal of Women’s Health found that women who chose abortion for their first pregnancy had higher increases in post-mental health treatment than women who didn’t? The study was based on 17 years’ worth of Medicaid data for nearly 5,000 women from seven states: Connecticut, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Vermont, and West Virginia.

Shouldn’t women in those states have the option to visit a center that provides information on their pregnancy, ultrasounds, counseling, and, most importantly, hope?

Full of questions, but the answer is an astounding yes. Abortion doesn’t fix a woman’s health; it destroys it. And PHCs aren’t medically ill-equipped. Many doctors and nurses give their time and energy, using modern equipment and health information to help women see the benefits and joy of choosing life.

While we don’t anticipate Equity Forward stopping its campaign against PHCs, we do hope Americans read between the lines.
