To make abortion truly unthinkable, we must help mothers get the support they need — and on Saturday, Aug.10, the Pro-Life Generation is doing just that.

Once again, we are taking to the sidewalks outside abortion facilities nationwide to offer support and life-affirming messages to abortion-minded mothers for National Pro-Life Gen Sidewalk Day. This annual Students for Life of America (SFLA) event brings together pro-life students and community members who are eager to lend a helping hand to women. We hope you’ll join us for this meaningful day!

On Sidewalk Day, the Pro-Life Generation will be showing up outside abortion facilities with chalk and resources in hand, covering the sidewalks with vibrant pro-life messages and offering a voice of compassion and advocacy to mothers seeking abortion. Our goal is to remind mothers that they can succeed without abortion and that the beautiful life within them is sacred and valuable.

Sidewalk counseling is an essential part of pro-life outreach. While many abortion supporters are trying to remove the free speech rights of those helping women outside abortion facilities, the majority of Americans disagree with this discrimination. Pro-life speech, and we know that sidewalk counseling works.

Sidewalk Day would not be as effective year after year if we did not have dedicated individuals stepping up to serve as Sidewalk Captains, leading local activism outside abortion facilities, and recruiting others to join.

If you would like to serve as a Sidewalk Captain, click here!

Those who sign up by Monday, July 19, will receive a FREE kit with helpful materials, including some items to create Standing With You (SWY) blessing bags that contain helpful items such as Abortion Pill Reversal (APR)  information cards, SWY brochure loaded with pregnancy help information, handwritten “Dear Friend” letters of support, chapstick, lotion, and more.

Did you know that when young men and women entering abortion facilities encounter sidewalk counselors who look like their peers, their turn-around rate is much higher? Your participation can make a profound difference, showing them they are not alone and that compassionate alternatives are available. That’s why we need YOU there.

Get Trained Before You Go!

Before participating in Sidewalk Day, SFLA offers an exclusive, FREE virtual training from Lauren Muzyka, President and CEO of Sidewalk Advocates for Life, on Thursday, Aug. 8, at 8 p.m. EST. During this training, she will share her expert tips for successful sidewalk counseling.

In addition to the training, here are a few things to remember when participating in Sidewalk Day:

Do’s:

  • Be peaceful, helpful, and goal-oriented.
  • Smile and be pleasant.
  • Stay vigilant and aware of your surroundings.
  • Have compassion.
  • Know the literature you have in your hand.
  • Back up what you say.
  • Show each mother that you care about her, not just the child.
  • Speak clearly and loudly enough to hear.

Don’ts:

  • Do not yell.
  • Do not display unapproachable body language (crossing arms, grumpy expressions, etc.).
  • Do not block the mother’s walking path.
  • Do not be aggressive.
  • Do not evangelize.
  • Do not goof around.
  • Do not touch the person – be respectful of personal space.
  • Do not break the law (e.g., don’t touch the front door, respect property lines, etc.).
  • Do not carry signs if you’re counseling. Stick to in-hand literature.

We hope you’ll join us to make a positive change this National Pro-Life Gen Sidewalk Day as we offer families in need love and support. Remember: You never know the impact you could have. Your presence might be the difference between life or death for a preborn child, so make sure you come out with the Pro-Life Generation on Thursday. Aug. 8!
