Miraculously, after visiting four abortion facilities across the country, Karen chose life for her daughter.
As Students for Life of America (SFLA) continues its six-figure national messaging campaign, ALMOST ABORTED, throughout the summer, one woman who was determined to have an abortion changed her mind mid-abortion and chose life for her daughter, and now, she’s choosing to share her story with others. Karen is one of many who share her story, including Faith, Rebecca, Josiah, Angela, Lily, Hope, Mia, Micaella, and Tina.
Karen and Lauren are a mom and daughter who were almost among the late-term abortion statistics when Karen got pregnant in college.
“I was always ‘the smart’ girl and was attending the University of Arkansas on a scholarship. I would have been the first person in my family to graduate from college, and that was important to me,” Karen told SFLA. “But, then I got pregnant. I never viewed my baby as human but just as a problem.”
Karen visited four abortion facilities across multiple states before she found one that would perform a late-term abortion at 21 weeks (about five months) of pregnancy. By the time she had started the abortion process, her boyfriend and another friend changed her mind, and her daughter, Lauren, was born prematurely but otherwise healthy at 26 weeks (about six months).
“I realized that I had been so determined to have the abortion that I never considered the humanity of the child, or the loss of my baby, or the reality of what I was really doing,” Karen continued. “I had planned to place her with an adoptive family, but after I saw her, I changed my mind.”
HEAR KAREN AND LAUREN’S STORY
Karen is grateful that she chose life instead of death for Lauren. Many women also want to reverse their chemical abortion, which is possible through Abortion Pill Reversal (APR), which gives the preborn baby progesterone after the first of two Chemical Abortion Pill starves the baby. 64-68% of babies are saved through APR with no birth defects. APR allows them to continue to live and thrive and gives women a last-minute chance to save their children. With the available data, 5,000 babies have been rescued from Chemical Abortion Pills.
APR is also effective and safe. In 2021, the Charlotte Lozier Institute (CLI) released a study analyzing the efficacy and safety of APR, citing the successful use of progesterone for women’s fertility as far back as the 1950s.
If any mom has started the Chemical Abortion Pill process with the first drug, she can still change her mind if she acts fast. Though Karen’s abortion was surgical, it’s a reminder to women that there can be courage in choosing life, even after an attempted abortion.
