GUEST POST: Students for Life of America (SFLA) is proud to accept amazing students like Sophia, a freshman at Florida State University, into our leadership programs through the National Leaders Collective (NLC). For the 2023-2024 school year, Sophia will be a part of the Pro-Life Gen Voices program, becoming an expert in online activism and changing hearts and minds about abortion online.
Get to know more about Sophia below:
Why did Sophia join the pro-life movement?
“As a Christian, I know that each and every human life is so, so precious and valuable. I also know that women and their children deserve way better than the horror of abortion. No woman should ever be alone through her pregnancy and into her journey as a mother.”
How has Sophia grown as a leader already?
In the summer of 2022, Sophia began spreading the pro-life message on social media. As a homeschooler who was not well connected to a homeschooling group, she couldn’t find a SFLA group to join in person, despite extensively searching the online map. However, she didn’t give up hope.
In October 2022, she received an email about the newly launched Pro-Life Gen Voices program and signed up right away. She was ecstatic to finally get her opportunity to join SFLA! Sophia immediately became a leader in Pro-Life Gen Voices, quickly connecting with other members online to help grow the community for which she had been longing.
She said, “I went from having no group, to this amazing online group, to joining the National Leaders Collective all within a year! It’s been such an amazing experience, and I’ve met so many amazing people. I’ve also grown and learned so much.”
Some of her accomplishments from just this past year include:
Sophia earned more than 300 points in the Pro-Life Gen Voices Program through online conversations and social media posting. She subsequently applied and successfully earned her spot in the 2023-2024 National Leaders Collective.
Sophia also helped a young woman find resources for her and her baby during an unplanned pregnancy, and this school year, Sophia has joined her SFLA group at Florida State University to take her activism to the next level!
How has Sophia’s involvement with SFLA impacted her so far?
“I am so grateful for the Pro-Life Gen Voices Program. It gave me the opportunity to get involved in the pro-life movement when I truly didn’t think I could.”
The Pro-Life Gen Voices Program is just one of NINE different leadership opportunities within the National Leaders Collective. Applications open each January for group leaders of SFLA groups to apply for a year of mentorship, opportunities, and education with SFLA.
