If there was ever a case that proved that the weaponized and Clinton-era Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act needed to go, this would be it.  

A Maryland man, Patrick Brice, was reportedly charged with and convicted of assaulting two elderly pro-lifers outside of a Baltimore Planned Parenthood, resulting in serious injuries. 

This would seemingly be one of the few pro-abortion aggressors who would be held accountable for their violent actions. In fact, according to Congressman Rep. Roy of Texas. “Since 1994, the FACE Act has been used 128x against pro-life Americans but only 4x against pro-abortion activists.”  

According to CBS, this was all captured on the video. The responding police officers reported that one of the two victims, a 73-year-old man, had a “large lump forming on his right eyebrow and blood and swelling around the right eye and right side of his face.” Additionally, a second victim, an 80-year-old man, was reportedly also severely assaulted by the same assailant.  

“During his trial, Brice did not dispute that he attacked the two men, but instead argued that he did not mean to seriously hurt them, The Banner reported,” CBS reported. “Brice was found guilty of second-degree assault and reckless endangerment, according to court records.”  

While this is all well and good, this brings up a few key points about the need to repeal the FACE Act.  Abortion apologists are “scared” of pro-lifers peacefully singing and praying. While it’s laughable and perplexing as to why abortion apologists would be afraid of family men and elderly people singing and praying outside of abortion businesses, notice that this Maryland man was reportedly charged by the state of Maryland, not the federal Department of Justice (DOJ). This means that states are well within their rights and fully equipped to prosecute people who perpetuate real violence.

So, what’s the point in getting a federal agency involved? Since the FACE Act’s inception during former President Bill Clinton’s administration, the FACE Act functions more to target those who peacefully stand up for the preborn given the farce law’s disproportionately targeting of peaceful pro-lifers.  

Under former President Joe Biden’s DOJ, the FACE Act continued to act as more of a shield for pro-abortion zealots and a weapon against peaceful pro-life advocates. The vandalization of Pregnancy Health Centers (PHC) and churches and attacking pro-lifers was looked over while pro-life advocates were put in handcuffs. Here are a few examples, including one from an SFLA staff member:    

• South Carolina man was convicted of the FACE Act for sitting in front of a Planned Parenthood entrance.    

• Pro-life protestor named Mark Houck was arrested at his home in front of his children in 2022 for protesting peacefully outside of a Planned Parenthood facility.     

•  SFLA staff member was likewise arrested for sidewalk-chalking on a public street in front of an abortion facility in Washington D.C. in 2021. Since then, the charges against the two students have been dropped, but the free speech case against the District of Columbia continues.

Students for Life of America (SFLA) is thrilled that these two elderly, pro-life men will see justice and that their attacker will be behind bars, but this case serves a greater purpose. It even more proves that the FACE Act is a farce, and states are strong enough on their own to prosecute REAL violence.
