Now, almost two and half years since the reversal of Roe v. Wade, the tired and tried “pro-life laws endanger women” line from abortion apologists to manipulate women into bowing the knee to the abortion industry has proven “false.”  

Thanks to the recent jaw-dropping data from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), abortion supporters can wipe their tears with this truth-exposing report on the DECREASE in maternal death rates.  

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), “maternal death” is defined as “the death of a woman while pregnant or within 42 days of termination of pregnancy, irrespective of the duration and the site of the pregnancy, from any cause related to or aggravated by the pregnancy or its management, but not from accidental or incidental causes.” 

This would include abortion since we know that Chemical Abortion Pills, a deadly two-drug cocktail, have reportedly caused the death of at least 30 women, according to the Federal Drug Administration (FDA).  

According to the CDC’s 2023 report based on the National Vital Statistics System, “The maternal mortality rate for 2023 decreased to 18.6 deaths per 100,000 live births, compared with a rate of 22.3 in 2022.” 

As a reminder, 2023 was the first full year of Roe’s reversal with 15 pro-life states, and already, there was a 3.7% decrease in maternal mortality rates, a nearly 4% drop. Who knows how much more it will decrease in 2024?  

This obliterates the abortion narrative, though it’s unclear whether or not the abortion industry will believe the truth and the facts. Sadly, their fearmongering regarding pro-life laws has created an unnatural fear around the God-given gift of childbirth.  

Vice President and Director of Medical Affairs for Charlotte Lozier Institute (CLI) Ingrid Skop, M.D., F.A.C.O.G., explains that childbirth IS safer than abortion, writing, “Studies from countries with better data show that a woman is at least three times as likely to die from any cause following abortion than after childbirth. The false claim that abortion is 14 times safer than childbirth arose from a 2012 journal article by two vocal abortion advocates, Elizabeth Raymond and David Grimes (henceforth ‘R&G’). Despite being debunked in the dozen years since, it continues to be repeated by pro-abortion media advocates.” (emphasis added) 

As time goes on and we gather more data from Roe’s reversal and we see a fuller picture of its impact, the more the abortion narrative will come crashing down. When women learn the truth about abortion, many will be empowered to choose Life and embrace childbirth, rather than death for their child. While the truth pierces the noise of the media and mainstream, extreme abortion-hungry politicians and pundits will continue to see their lies to women.  That’s why we press on at Students for Life Action (SFLAction) and SFLA to save lives, share the truth despite the beautifully packaged lies of the abortion industry, and abolish abortion.
