At St. Mary’s Catholic Central High School in Monroe, Michigan, a Students for Life of America (SFLA) group called St. Mary’s Respect Life Club went above and beyond this semester, raising a whopping $17,000 for their National Pro-life March trip!

To raise this much money, the group sold discount cards to local Monroe shops and hosted a Chipotle Night Fundraiser, where a percentage of the proceeds went towards the group’s trip. They also sold pizza for $2 a slice every other Monday for four Mondays and pro-life T-shirts for $10 each. They also received some financial support from the Knights of Columbus, and their fundraising efforts aren’t even done yet!

Fundraising aside, this group knows the power of prayer. At the end of every month, they host a pro-life mass in their school’s chapel to bring an end to abortion, as well as praying the pro-life rosary at their school. Plus, they participated in a Life Chain on Respect Life Sunday, which is a prayer chain and public sidewalk witness against abortion. With boldness, they lifted our leaders, praying for a strong pro-life vote, public officials, Christian leaders, protection of preborn children, all those who witness the Life Chain, and personal repentance. Not only that, but they prayed outside of their local abortion facility.

St. Mary’s Respect Life Club takes every opportunity to spread awareness about its group and mission. In addition to tabling at their school’s club fair during lunch and receiving numerous sign-ups for 71 members, they also tabled at their school’s open house, showcasing their pro-life efforts to students, parents, and staff alike. Plus, they’re active on social media and participated in National Pro-Life Chalk Day, where they chalked beautiful pro-life messages all over campus about the sanctity of all human life from womb to tomb.

Last but certainly not least, this group hosted a “Coat the Cold Babies” coat drive for needy children this winter.

Sunny Duran, president of St. Mary’s Respect for Life Club, said, “The SMCC Respect Life Club loves to help and fundraise for the preborn and born children in the community.” Needless to say, St. Mary’s Respect Life Club is a stellar group with various events, several members, a knack for fundraising, and a passion for prayer.

SFLA looks forward to all they accomplish next semester.
