“Endorsing a federal limit on abortion that would allow more than 90% of abortions to continue will not build bridges with most pro-life Americans or with the radical Left who wants unlimited abortion, paid for with tax dollars, through all nine months. Step back from the gestational line and focus on the people who can make America great again – appointments for Vice President, and heads of Health & Human Services, the Food & Drug Administration, and the Department of Justice. In such key positions, we can begin the hard work of protecting life in service and in law,” said Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins.

WASHINGTON D.C. (03-18-2024) – Following President Trump’s remarks on Sunday about his plans to soon announce some of his plans on the human rights issue of our day – abortion – Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins encouraged an approach that does not result in a divisive limit on abortion that would permit almost all abortion.

Hawkins made the following statement: “Mr. President, Please Don’t Endorse a Bridge to Nowhere – Federal Support for more than 9 in 10 abortions with a limit at 4 Months (16 weeks) of Pregnancy. We can assure the President that establishing a line that would allow 90%+ of abortions will not make a connection across a great divide that separates those concerned with both mother and child and those who believe the government should fund the violence of abortion. Given the dynamics of the current and protected U.S. Senate vote count, many other options remain for real protections for the preborn and help for their mothers.

“If we’ve learned anything from President Biden, it’s that abortion is absolutely a federal issue as key appointments in places like the Vice President’s office, at HHS, DOJ, and the FDA, to name only a few, have allowed abortion radicals to weaponize our public policy in favor of abortion, with an anti-baby bias never seen before in the United States. An abortion limit at four months won’t satisfy such activists, and, so late in pregnancy, a mother may already be able to feel her child and scientists have proven that the child will feel pain when facing a violent death by abortion. In this tight race to come, please give The Pro-Life Generation, who have seen you as a champion, something to vote for, rather than just an abortion radical to vote against.”

TO NOTE: According to the Centers for Disease Control most recent 2021 data, more than 9 in 10 (93.5%) abortions take place by the end of 12 weeks (3 months) of pregnancy, with an additional 5.7% taking placing between 14 and 20 weeks.
