South Carolina had its first FACE Act conviction after Steven Lefemine went to court this week.
The Clinton-era FACE (Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances) Act vaguely and broadly “prohibits violent, threatening, damaging and obstructive conduct intended to injure, intimidate, or interfere with the right to seek, obtain or provide reproductive health services,” according to the Department of Justice.
His “protest” wasn’t spewing profanities, physical altercations, shouting, obscenity, or anything else outrageous. Rather, his conviction worthy crime was sitting in front of a Planned Parenthood entrance reading a newspaper. What’s next, convicting for drinking a cup of coffee?
According to an ABC 13 article, “Employees of the organization provided testimonies that revealed the clinic provides a litany of reproductive services, including birth control, mental health counseling, pregnancy testing and planning, prenatal and postpartum services as well as abortion. PPSA staff knows Lefemine because he frequently protests the operation of the clinic.”
Lefemine could spend up to six months in federal prison and pay up to $10,000 for sitting at a Planned Parenthood entrance. The FACE Act is weaponized the U.S. Department of Justice to target pro-life advocates, and the media cheers them on. But, when there’s egregious killing off preborn life, they get a slap on the wrist or praise and awards.
Remember when a man attempted to kill his preborn child by slipping Chemical Abortion Pills into his wife’s water? His conviction was only 180 days – that’s six months in prison for attempted murder, the same amount of time Lefemine could face sitting in front of a door.
Meanwhile, Planned Parenthood is handing out Margaret Sanger Awards, their “highest honor” for “outstanding contributions to the reproductive health and rights movement.”
Translation: whoever helped Planned Parenthood kill the most babies.
A pregnant Michelle Williams praised abortion for allowing her to have her career and abort her past child or children, much to the applause of the Hollywood elites.
The media is more than happy to report and praise the results of the FACE Act on pro-lifers. Recently, six of 11 people were indicted for violating the FACE Act outside of an abortion facility in Mount Juliet, Tennessee, which the DOJ describes as a “conspiracy to prevent the clinic employees from providing, and patients from receiving, reproductive health services, a civil right secured by the FACE Act.” That “conspiracy” was peacefully praying and singing.
The weaponization of the FACE Act happens in the states, with similar situations across the globe. In October 2020, five protestors were found guilty of FACE Act violations at the Washington Surgi-Clinic. A pro-life protestor named Mark Houck was arrested at his home in front of his children in 2022 for protesting peacefully outside of a Planned Parenthood facility. A Students for Life of America (SFLA) staff member was likewise arrested for sidewalk-chalking on a public street in front of an abortion facility in Washington D.C. in 2021. Thankfully, in 2023, the courts ruled in favor of SFLA.
Across the pond, UK Christian preacher Stephen Green was prosecuted and convicted for breaking the Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) by holding a sign with a Bible verse within the buffer zone of an abortion facility. UK veteran Adam Smith-Connor, who silently prayed outside of an abortion facility for his lost child, was charged with displaying an “Unborn Lives Matter” bumper sticker.
Some say the slippery slope doesn’t exist, but with the FACE Act’s clear bias towards the pro-life movement, it’s obvious it does.
