WASHINGTON, D.C. (02-27-2024) – Students for Life of America will join Coogs for Life and Texas Right to Life, along with other pro-life groups and organizations in Texas, to rally in protest of a display of “Satan” at the University of Houston Campus. Students for Life of America President Kristan Hawkins observed that a love of death by abortion “is just what you would expect from those who embrace Satan, especially as the Satanic Temple fiercely protects and praises abortion through a ‘Satanic Abortion Ritual.’”

The infamous Satanic idol, an eight-foot-tall naked female statue with goat-shaped braids and tentacle-like arms, symbolizes support for women’s rights through abortion. The statue designed by Shahzia Sikander is currently installed and located at the Cullen Family Plaza. Due to pressure from SFLA and others in the pro-life movement, the statue’s ceremony, as well as a speech from Sikander, were canceled. Still, the University of Houston isn’t removing the statue and plans to leave the offensive eyesore at the University of Houston, a public university, for eight months. Sikander’s hideous symbol of the right to abortion invalidates the lives of the preborn.

“The chain reaction has begun, and the call to rally is spreading,” said David Bartlett, president of Coogs for Life. “Moments like these are what reinvigorate our message, what rekindle the fire in our hearts for what we are passionate about. Together with all other organizations, we can be the change that we seek. The moment has arrived on our doorstep, and we will take that stand united.”

As a part of the protest, a Cemetery of the Innocents will be displayed on the University of Houston’s campus to show the lives taken by abortion and why our society cannot be silent.

The Protest: The protest will take place at Lynn Eusan Park, 4800 Calhoun Rd, Houston, TX 77004, from 5 to 8:30 p.m. CST.

Students for Life Action (SFLAction), a 501c4, along with its 501c3 sister organization, Students for Life of America (SFLA), make up the nation’s largest pro-life youth organization and a political and policy operation engaging people of all ages. Together they work to end abortion — the human rights issue of our day — and provide political, legal, and community support for women and their children, born and preborn. Headquartered in Fredericksburg, VA, SFLA has more than 1,300 groups on middle, high school, college, university, medical, and law school campuses in all 50 states. SFLA creates strategy, policy, and programming to connect those most targeted for abortion with people ready to help and builds a framework for political engagement on their behalf. SFLA and SFLAction have more conversations with those most targeted by the abortion industry than any other pro-life outreach in the world, reaching more than 2 million people across social media platforms each week and engaging in approximately 100,000 digital conversations per month. Over more than 16 years, President Kristan Hawkins has grown SFLAction/SFLA into an $18 million organization preparing for a Post-Roe America.
