GUEST POST: With the reversal of Roe v. Wade behind us, the pro-life movement needs to continue our efforts to save lives and support women now more than ever — and this past Saturday, we did so through National Pro-Life Generation Sidewalk Day. This nationwide event kicked off the 2022-2023 school year of pro-life service with a bang, showing we are diligently working to ensure no woman stands alone in a Post-Roe America.

The abortion industry thrives through isolating and fearmongering women in unplanned pregnancies. As a part of Students for Life of America’s (SFLA) Supportive Services Pillar of pro-life activism, we encourage our students to sidewalk counsel outside of abortion facilities, promote life-affirming pregnancy resources on campus and in their communities, and become Standing With You Advocates with our Standing With You initiative. Dozens of students and community pro-life leaders across the country signed up to be sidewalk captains covering abortion facilities on National Pro-Life Generation Sidewalk Day. Here are a few highlights from the Saturday event:

SFLA Rocky Mountain Regional Coordinator Brooke Faulkner had a group of high school students sidewalk counsel at the Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood, and she was overjoyed by their experience, commenting:

“We had a wonderful day out on the sidewalk by the Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood. Our group of high schoolers was joined by a local church and some volunteers from Sidewalk Advocates for Life. We were able to hand out some mommy blessing bags to moms as they were leaving the facility. Our students drew life-affirming messages with chalk, and we had a time of prayer.

One exciting thing that happened actually occurred as we were headed out for the day. We ran into a mother and her three, small daughters who were on a corner looking for assistance with rent. Since they only spoke Spanish, we ran over to our pregnancy resource center (PRC) to find out about their Spanish speaking services.

We were able to bring information back to the family, as well as give them some snacks and water to endure the hot, sunny day. While we don’t know if they will follow through on the information we shared with them, it was encouraging to be able to direct someone over to the PRC!”

Shaohannah Faith, the Capital Area Regional Coordinator, was accompanied by 14 activists at the Bethesda, Maryland abortion facility which is the facility used by notorious late-term abortionist Leroy Carhart. The group diligently sidewalk counseled, chalked, spread life-affirming messages to local media, and prayed for the end of abortion and the women and preborn children walking into the facility.

Our Appalachian Regional Coordinator Marina Mason also hosted a prayer vigil and life chain at the recently closed abortion facility in Louisville, Kentucky. Kentucky’s trigger law closed the abortion facility right before National Pro-Life Generation Sidewalk Day so the Pro-Life Generation went out on Saturday to offer women support and stand up for life.
