Earlier this year, Students for Life of America (SFLA) President Kristan Hawkins wrote an op-ed on Disney’s implicit support of the abortion lobby, finding that the new content wasn’t always kid-friendly and predicting that a continuation of such material could really hurt the brand with parents — and it looks like she was right. Reports show that the company isn’t doing too hot, and it’s hard not to link their woes to their wokeness.
An article on the Disney downfall was summed up succinctly by online news organization Spiked, reading:
“Life at the Walt Disney Company is not the fairytale it used to be. In recent years, the entertainment mega-corporation had enjoyed something of a renaissance – with its Disney+ streaming service the new jewel in the empire’s crown. But Disney shares are down 40 per cent this year, and last week’s quarterly report makes for grim reading. Disney’s expenses and operating losses are skyrocketing. Even the hugely popular Disney+, which continues to gain in subscribers, made an operating loss of $1.47 billion – more than double its loss last year. An internal memo last week announced job cuts and a hiring freeze.”
Its’ latest September approval rating also showed Disney’s only polling favorably with about 51% of Americans — a serious ouch for a company that was once beloved by Americans of all ages.
Hawkins warned Americans (and corporate Disney) earlier this year in a Fox News article that we might see such a thing after being disgusted at finding the phrase “My body, My choice” in a Disney movie — among other unsavory and inappropriate themes for children. Her op-ed entitled “I’m a Mom and I’m Saying Goodbye to Disney” went viral on the Internet for sounding the alarm on Disney’s new material which parents can no longer trust unconditionally.
She wrote, “Disney clearly is no longer interested in being a guardian of the innocence of childhood. Instead, by their own admission, Disney leadership is actively pushing children out of Neverland and directly into an adult’s sexualized world, where they can be groomed for others enjoyment.
“Whatever Disney’s future might be, it’s a sad reality that the company is losing its credibility through movies like “Turning Red.” For parents who proactively monitor what their child is viewing, it’s likely time to say goodbye to today’s Disney if you want to protect your children from the grooming tactics of the left. We’re not dealing with Mickey Mouse anymore.”
