Chemical Abortion pills are the abortion lobby’s Post-Roe poison of choice, but study after study keeps showing just how dangerous these life-ending pills are for women (not to mention their preborn children). A recently released study is now also demonstrating how detrimental these pills are for women’s mental health — and sadly, just how lost women are in finding therapeutic measures for this emotional trauma that is often denied by the abortion lobby. Here’s what you need to know:
This study was commissioned by the organization Support After Abortion and conducted by Shapard Research. It had a rigorous research design, conducting a random sample of over 14,000 women to identify 114 women who had taken Chemical Abortion pills. According to Dr. Michael New, a researcher at the Catholic University of America and a fellow at the Charlotte Lozier Institute, this was a strong study as it analyzed “a more representative sample of women who obtained chemical abortions than do other studies that rely on volunteers.”
This is what the study found:
- 34% of women who took Chemical Abortion pills said that their opinion on themselves or their decision changed negatively after their abortion.
- 24% of women reported that they searched for help after their abortion experiences.
- 39% of women said they didn’t look for help, but talking with someone could have been beneficial for their emotional state.
- 82% of women who took Chemical Abortion pills did not know where to get help afterwards.
It is sadly unsurprising that many women did not know where to find assistance after their Chemical Abortions because the abortion lobby has made abortion regret taboo. Consequently, many women are left to suffer alone and even have their emotional trauma invalidated by abortion supporters who say Post-Abortion Syndrome is “not a real, actual medical condition.”

As reported in an earlier SFLA blog:
“Post-Abortion Syndrome is a form of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). PTSD often occurs after an individual has suffered an event so stressful and so traumatic that this person is unable to cope with this experience in a normal manner, including being able to express feelings they may experience. The symptoms of PTSD (including PAS) vary from case to case, and sometimes, these reactions may not arise until years after the event, making it sometimes difficult to identify.
“A meta-analysis published in 2011 in the British Journal of Psychiatry prepared by Dr. Priscilla Coleman combined the results of 22 studies which found 81% or women with abortion experiences were more likely to suffer from mental health issues. The meta-analysis included data on 877,181 women from six different countries, conducted between 1995 and 2009.
“This research also found that the women who had abortions, rate of anxiety were 34% higher as opposed to women who had no abortion experiences, and that depression among post-abortive women was 37% higher. In addition, this study revealed that women who had abortion experiences were 110% more likely to struggle with severe alcohol abuse, marijuana use increased 230%, and a 155% increased risk of suicide.”
Clearly, post-abortive emotional distress is a real issue, and this new study pointed out, Chemical Abortion pills are one big driving factor in this problem.
