STUDENTS FOR LIFE ACTION OPPOSES THE REMOVAL OF PARENTAL NOTIFICATION PROTECTIONS FOR MINORS IN ILLINOIS

“With abortion violence available on-demand and this new move to destroy parental notification protections for pregnant minors, Illinois is vying for the status of most dangerous state for children born and preborn,” said Students for Life of America and Students for Life Action president Kristan Hawkins. “Instead of protecting young girls being preyed on by the abortion industry and sexual predators, pro-abortion legislators in Illinois are putting their allegiance to Big Abortion over the wellbeing of the most vulnerable in their state.”

SPRINGFIELD, I.L. (10-25-2021) – With Illinois halfway through its fall veto session, Students for Life Action is sounding the alarm about a dangerous scheme in the legislature to remove protections from young girls vulnerable to the predatory abortion industry. The attempt to remove parental notification protections from minors is expected in the coming week as the Legislature purportedly plans to repeal the Parental Notification Act of 1995.

Students for Life of America’s Sarah Michalak has participated in efforts to protect Parental Notification and told the Chicago Sun Times:

This is not about being pro-life or pro-choice, this is about putting aside the financial, and even ideological, considerations to put young women first. I think if we can do that we can find a lot of common ground in this law together.

Michalak will be at the Illinois Capitol this Wednesday to speak with legislators about the importance of Parental Notification. She will be at the Capitol from approximately 10am to 1:30pm local time. Interviews are available.

Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America and Students for Life Action, noted that Illinois is among the states most dangerous for children, both born and preborn, with the state prioritizing the desires of the abortion industry over the wellbeing of children. She said, “Instead of protecting young girls being preyed on by the abortion industry and sexual predators, pro-abortion legislators in Illinois are putting their allegiance to Big Abortion over the wellbeing of the most vulnerable in their state.”

Students for Life Action (SFLAction), a 501c4, along with its 501c3 sister organization, Students for Life of America (SFLA), make up the nation’s largest pro-life youth organization and a political and policy operation engaging people of all ages. Together they work to end abortion — the human rights issue of our day — and provide political, legal, and community support for women and their children, born and preborn. Headquartered in Fredericksburg, VA, SFLA has more than 1,250 groups on middle, high school, college, university, medical, and law school campuses in all 50 states. SFLA creates strategy, policy, and programming to connect those most targeted for abortion with people ready to help and builds a framework for political engagement on their behalf. SFLA and SFLAction have more conversations with those most targeted by the abortion industry than any other pro-life outreach in the world, reaching more than 2 million people across social media platforms each week and engaging in approximately 100,000 digital conversations per month. Over the last 15 years, President Kristan Hawkins has grown SFLA into a $15 million organization preparing for a Post-Roe America.
