PRO-LIFE VICTORY ALERT: TEXAS PASSES HUMAN LIFE PROTECTION ACT, TRIGGERING POST-ROE PROTECTIONS FROM ABORTION VIOLENCE
“This week, the Texas Legislature passed one of SFLAction’s priority bills, the Human Life Protection Act,” said Sarah Zarr, Texas and Southern Regional Manager for Students for Life and Students for Life Action. “We are grateful to the Texas voters and elected officials working to protect as many children, women, and families as possible in Texas law.”
AUSTIN, T.X., and WASHINGTON, D.C. (05-28-2021) – This week, the Texas Legislature passed the Human Life Protection Act. Once signed into law by Governor Abbott, the bill will ensure Texas children are protected from abortion violence with the reversal of Roe v. Wade.
“In 1973, the Supreme Court struck down state protections for the preborn nationwide and fabricated a right to kill under the so-called right to privacy,” said Sarah Zarr, Texas and Southern Regional Manager for SFL/SFLAction. “It is imperative that, as we approach the demise of Roe, states are prepared to resume protecting the preborn from the abortion violence that has run rampant in our nation for more than 48 years. Therefore, we are grateful to see the passage of the Human Life Protection Act in Texas.”
Students for Life Action urges Governor Abbott to sign the Human Life Protection Act into law as soon as possible and is grateful for the pro-life allies and legislators who brought the bill this far.
As SFL/SFLAction reported earlier this month, Sarah Zarr and the Students for Life Action team have tirelessly organized and deployed boots-on-the-ground action to rescue children and protect women and families in 2021 through the passage of pro-life legislation and an historic Sanctuary City for the Unborn ordinance in Lubbock, TX. SFLAction deployed student leaders in Lubbock who knocked on nearly 4,000 doors, sent nearly 20,000 text messages and made 5,000 phone calls to Lubbock residents urging support for the Sanctuary for the Unborn ordinance, which passed by a sweeping margin of 62% to 38%.
The passage of the Human Life Protection Act comes on the heels of the Planned Parenthood abortion vendor announcing its lawsuit against the city of Lubbock for the right to kill children there. Planned Parenthood is on the defense in the state, where it has already given up on its lawsuit against the state after Texas kicked the abortion vendor out of the Medicaid program for violations of federal law caught on camera by investigative journalists of the Center for Medical Progress. Through these actions, Planned Parenthood disqualified itself from Medicaid, and has given up fighting the state to be readmitted to the program.
Texas has passed strong bills this session that will protect children and women from the abortion industry. On May 19, Students for Life and Students for Life Action were present as Governor Abbott signed the Texas Heartbeat Bill into law. SFLAction has offered testimonies in support of pro-life bills and lobbied senators to vote pro-life. The organization has generated nearly 60,000 personal emails to legislators in support of pro-life legislation this year. SFLAction will remain engaged in the state until every child is protected and welcomed.
TOMORROW, Students for Life Action will hold a rally in Austin celebrating the Texas Heartbeat Law and countering Planned Parenthood’s protest against the protection. More on the Texas Heartbeat Celebration HERE — and click HERE to RSVP to the event.
