Manhattan College in Riverdale, NY is a Lasallian Catholic College. On their website, they note: “We are a Lasallian catholic college offering a transformative education that touches your mind and heart. We strive to promote faith, respect, education, community and social justice”
“Hundreds of years later, De La Salle’s mission inspires us today. We continue to live out the five core Lasallian principles: faith in the presence of God, respect for all people, quality education, inclusive community, concern for the poor and social justice.”
Respect for all people seems to have missed the mark. Since they are an academic institution, one would think they could check out a textbook that would inform them when human life begins. So by literally funding the terminations of students’ children, they’re obviously being blatant with not following that principle. But let’s not forget about the women who are being encouraged by their school that their children don’t matter. Nor do they, since abortion hurts women.
You can read about the school’s Lasallian namesake, St. John Baptiste De La Salle, here.
What Did The School Do?
The school’s current student insurance fully covers “medically necessary” abortions (which don’t exist). Their definition of this includes abortions in cases of “rape, incest, or fetal malformation.” Last year’s student insurance covered abortion, as well.
Additionally, the plan partially covers other elective abortions – oh, but only 1 per year.
Evidence
We received an email from the school’s communications department confirming that the insurance plan fully covers these abortions. It is also listed on their website.
How We’ve Responded
We emailed the school and they responded, confirming that abortion is covered. We then sent a letter to the school administration asking them to remove abortion from their student insurance plan. We never heard back.
- Sent email to communications dept: 10/22/19
- Received response: 11/15/19
- Sent letter to administration: 11/4/19 (no response)
Contact the School!
Call or email the Manhattan College administration and tell them to stop covering “medically necessary abortions, including in cases of rape, incest or fetal malformation” in their student insurance plan! And for that matter, they shouldn’t partially be covering other elective abortions, either.
