CHECK IT OUT: Kristan Hawkins’ free speech op-ed on Fox News

The uproar over Vice President Mike Pence’s decision to leave the Colts-49ers game after some NFL players took a knee during the national anthem again highlights the intense cultural debate over free speech that seems of utmost importance to the media and activists. Yet not all “speech” is treated as equal in coverage and attention.

Over the last few weeks, the free speech rights of students on college campuses have been violated as peaceful chalk messages from students have been destroyed, flyers pulled down and permits for new pro-life groups and speakers slow walked through the approval process to prevent voices from being heard. If you haven’t heard about the college blockade taking place even this week, perhaps it is because the students whose voices are being forcibly silenced favor life over abortion. And while they may not get the attention that millionaire athletes can garner, their points of view are no less valid.

HHS Secretary Pick: Must be Pro-Life

Pro-life leaders look to President Trump to continue fighting for life with his pending Health and Human Services Secretary choice. Abortion is not healthcare, and those supervising so much of our national healthcare system need to be committed to saving life … not ending it.

Students for Life of America President Kristan Hawkins called on President Donald Trump to keep his word to pro-life Americans by choosing a pro-life replacement for HHS Secretary Tom Price. “The most loyal of President Trump’s constituency has been his pro-life allies, who supported his campaign and believed his promise to protect American taxpayers from their forced funding of the abortion industry. Media reports that a replacement may not share the President’s pro-life views are disturbing, so we are asking the President and his team to continue to show is his commitment to the pro-life movement by choosing someone who values life – born and preborn – and who understands that overburdened taxpayers deserve real healthcare from legitimate medical professionals – not abortionists.”

SFLA just finished a series of rallies in key states across the country, part of our #Sockit2PP National Tour that will travel to more than 90 college campuses this fall. We are talking to the next generation of pro-life voters about the issues at stake, including the need for key personnel like the HHS Secretary to stand for life. And we’re launching a social media campaign to support a pro-life pick, #prolifehhs, aimed at activating the powerhouse of the pro-life movement – Generation Z and Millennials.

Our time is now.

By Kristan Hawkins, President of Students for Life of America

Our time is now.

America has a pro-life majority government. Everything we have been fighting so hard to accomplish these past several years, despite an entrenched abortion lobby and corrupt politicians in Washington — all of this is now possible.

It’s now very easy to imagine a day when Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton will be overturned and when Planned Parenthood, our nation’s abortion Goliath, will be defunded of half a billion dollars in taxpayer money.

This is possible, now. trump1

If we, the pro-life generation, hold President-Elect Trump to his promises.

If we hold the Congress and it’s leaders to their numerous pledges.

If we stand united, focused, and motivated.

There is no excuse.

As you know, our mission at Students for Life has never been dependent on what happens in Washington. This victory helps the pro-life movement immensely. This new pro-life majority has it within their reach to pass and enforce the pro-life laws we need until we reach the day our culture fundamentally rejects abortion. We will save more lives.

…but now the real work begins. We have to finish what we started.

We need to ensure that only pro-life Supreme Court justices are appointed, period. We need to fire Planned Parenthood and defund them of our taxpayer dollars, plain and simple.

We need to mobilize like never before and ensure our leaders in Washington will do what they have pledged.

And I’m going to ask you to do some hard things in the next few months and years.

I’m asking you today to trust our team at Students for Life and to believe in our mission to make abortion unthinkable and illegal in our lifetime. For this will be one of my greatest honors to lead you through this fight…the fight of our lives.

While our pro-life generation may be young, we’ve studied under our pro-life predecessors and heroes. We’re organized. We’re united. And we’re prepared. We can do this.

Please, stand with me. There’s so much we need to do.

This is our chance to appoint the justices we need to overturn Roe and Doe. This is our chance to defund and bankrupt the abortion Goliath, Planned Parenthood. This is our chance, the chance of a lifetime, to abolish abortion.

This is our time.

Late-Term Abortion is Real

LTA is real bumper stickerAfter abortion was (finally) brought up in a presidential debate last week and Donald Trump graphically explained a late-term abortion – that the baby is “ripped out of the womb” – and Hillary Clinton retorted that late-term abortions don’t happen that often and if they do, it’s because of a fetal anomaly. The media freaked out and bolted to Clinton’s defense. They claimed she was right, that Trump was wrong, and published heartbreaking stories of women who chose to abort their babies late in the pregnancy because of a diagnosis that the child was incompatible with life.  Comedian and liberal feminist Samantha Bee took to her show “Full Frontal” with a segment that included her shouting through a megaphone that “partial-birth abortions aren’t a thing!”

But that’s not the truth. Hillary Clinton was wrong. The liberal press is wrong. Samantha Bee is wrong. Late-term abortions ARE a thing and women who choose them often don’t make that choice because of a fetal anomaly diagnosis.

Here’s the facts:

  • Roe v. Wade and its companion case, Doe v. Bolton, from the U.S. Supreme Court made abortion legal throughout all nine months of pregnancy for any reason whatsoever
  • Late-term abortions, usually defined as abortions past viability (24 weeks, although babies have survived who were born earlier) or past 20 weeks, do happen – 15,000 per year according to the Centers for Disease Control (read about abortions past 30 weeks here, testimony from a former Planned Parenthood director about late-term abortions, and the latest in a long list of botched late-term abortions).
  • Most late-term abortions are chosen for the same reasons first-term abortions are chosen. Fetal anomalies account for a small percentage of late-term abortions. A paper from the Charlotte Lozier Institute (CLI) wrote about a study where women seeking both first-trimester and late-term abortions reported “not knowing about the pregnancy,” “trouble deciding about the abortion,” and “disagreeing about the abortion with the man involved,” with similar frequency.
  • There are five abortion facilities in the country where women can obtain abortions in the ninth month and 162 abortion facilities that do late-term abortion.
  • No medical study supports the claim that late-term abortions are necessary to save the life of the mother.
  • Partial-birth abortion, where the abortionist kills the baby as it’s legs dangle outside of the mother, was outlawed in 2003. However, the Center for Medical Progress undercover videos at least raised suspicion that some abortionists may still be doing them in order to get intact baby parts to sell. Abortionists have also devised other methods to kill viable babies late in pregnancy.
  • Late-term abortions are extremely dangerous for the mother. Kermit Gosnell sits in prison for killing babies born alive during late-term abortions as well as killing mothers. Women have died at the hands of late-term abortionist Leroy Carhart, who is currently being sued for a botched late-term abortion. Douglas Karpen, who not only killed babies born alive after abortions like Gosnell, but a 15-year-old died after an abortion from and another was seriously injured.

Please share this brief video below about late-term abortions in the United States and go to to learn more. This is a barbaric practice that kills a viable child and is dangerous for the mother.
