Yesterday, a California man was arrested, charged with holding his pregnant girlfriend at gunpoint and forcing her to take unknown pills to kill their child. The forced abortion succeeded as the mother confirmed the child’s demise following the attack.
The story is tragic and increasingly common as legislatures in pro-abortion states continue to put mothers in danger by devaluing the lives within them. New York, following their egregious Reproductive Health Act, has seen a similar trend of violence towards pregnant women. But this particular story was approached by NBC with an interesting angle.
It’s suggested that the mother wanted this child. She didn’t go willingly to a Planned Parenthood to abort the child; evidently, it took aggravated assault to make her do it. This is the pro-abortion mentality – if this child had been unwanted, his or her death would’ve been proudly called abortion and an exercising of her rights.
But in this case, they’ve labeled it a miscarriage. Apparently, there’s still confusion about the words “miscarriage” and “abortion.” Miscarriage is the natural, spontaneous death of a gestating human in-utero. Often, the reasons are unknown. Abortion is the deliberate ending of a preborn life, using any of a number of methods. In both scenarios, a deceased zygote/embryo/fetus is the result. But intent draws the distinction.
The horror described in this California story was not an “induced miscarriage.” It was a forced abortion, deliberately carried out by the boyfriend. Another peculiarity about this story is the scene of the crime. California has the most absurdly pro-abortion laws in the United States, proving time and time again that they care nothing for the value of its preborn citizens (which hasn’t stopped them from slapping “birth defect” warnings on every piece of furniture in America. But we digress). They just voted to force their public universities to hand out chemical abortion drugs, for crying out loud.
California officials are charging this man with first-degree murder, among other things. How is this first-degree murder, but the (well over) 132,000 aborted babies in California each year are nothing? Encouraged, even? By calling it murder, they’ve acknowledged the personhood of this baby, and shed a lot of light on their hypocrisy.
Our hearts are with this traumatized mother and lost baby.
