On Halloween, the University of New Hampshire hosted a Women’s Expo – a collection of (supposedly) female empowerment and resource organizations just for women. Good premise, questionable execution.
Not wanting an actual female empowerment group to be left out, the Students for Life at UNH requested a table to advertise the Pregnant on Campus Initiative! They requested to participate in the event a few weeks in advance but didn’t hear back until the afternoon of the 30th (yes, the night before).
Nothing’s proven, but conjecture is that the organizing committee hoped they would be unable to pull it off at such late notice… but the students were prepared and pulled together a great table.
They had Title IX Rights information sheets, Pregnant on Campus info cards, pregnancy help drop cards, candy, stickers, wristbands, Adoption Saves Lives ribbons, an idea easel, foster care v. adoption facts, local pregnancy center info, and even an interactive “Place the Fetal Development Fact on the Timeline” game.
Thanks to these students, young women at UNH saw a hopeful message about healthy empowerment and nonviolent choices!
