Planned Parenthood has its eyes on Birmingham, Alabama to for a new abortion facility, but local pro-lifers are not letting them off easy, using a strong, on the ground, targeted campaign to stop the building of the new facility.
One successful endeavor has been reaching out to workers and companies who are or might be involved in building the facility, asking them to not aid in the building of the abortion facility. They have been successful, with the rumor being that Planned Parenthood had to go out of the state to Tennessee to even find a contractor after others quit or refused to help. At least one construction worker has quit his job after a Students for Life group talked to him while they were praying outside of the facility.
And now the group has a new victory! According to CEC For Life, the leading pro-life group on the ground in Birmingham, a construction company, Dunn Construction, has refused to work to help build the Planned Parenthood facility, and furthermore, said they would not help other companies buy asphalt from them if they were involved in building the Planned Parenthood. CEC For Life and other pro-life groups have been working to pressure companies to not work with Planned Parenthood.
CEC For Life wrote on a blog post, “HUGE NEWS (and a definite reminder for continued prayer): We received word today that Dunn Construction, one of only three local providers for asphalt, REFUSED to bid on paving Planned Parenthood’s parking lot! AND, they went even further for life by also refusing to provide asphalt to any smaller companies who might take the job and need to purchase the asphalt from their factory. Praise God!! And many thanks to Dunn for standing for babies in the womb!
This company’s decision to do what is right may encourage other companies — even the smaller ones — to do the same. We know of a situation where this might be the exact case, but we can’t say anymore about it at this time.
We simply ask that you continue to PRAY. Pray that the other two local providers for asphalt (we are contacting them this week!) will also refuse to help Planned Parenthood, and that smaller businesses will see a way to follow suit. Imagine if Planned Parenthood can’t find a single person to pave that parking lot. Pray, saints!”
Katie Lodjic, national field director for Students for Life Action, noted, “This is great news and shows that committed pro-lifers can take on a billion-dollar corporation and win. Planned Parenthood would be a huge stain on this community, and residents of Birmingham do not need Planned Parenthood; plenty of free and low-cost healthcare organizations exists in Birmingham that do not commit abortions.”
