On October 15th, Students for Life of America President Kristan Hawkins will speak at Xavier University, a Jesuit Catholic school in Cincinnati, OH. This small, hilly campus in Southern Ohio is the next stop on her fall speaking tour, “Making Abortion Illegal Again.” But here’s something everyone should know: pro-life values (or even free speech) are not safe at any school anymore. Not even Catholic ones.
The student group hosting Hawkins, Xavier Students for Life, advertised the event by posting flyers around campus, just like every other group does for their own events. According to the group, 21 flyers have been torn down by vandals in the single week they were up.
The group has a history of campus discrimination (mostly from fellow students, at least). Last year, vandals in the night washed away pro-life chalking the group had done earlier in the day. Several years prior, a pro-abortion protester stood outside the campus chapel with a pro-abortion sign while the group held a prayer vigil. Other notable interactions the group faced include other vandalized flyers, the school’s acceptance of a campus Sex Week (which is notoriously pro-abortion), as well as social media harassment following the group’s annual fall memorial for the preborn.
Should any of the flyer thieves join us at the “Make Abortion Illegal Again” talk, we hope to encounter a change of heart and a mind more open to dialogue.
