Just last month, Students for Life wrote about a report that came out of Minnesota about three babies being born alive after botched abortions. And that was plenty horrifying to hear this tragedy just in 2018 and just in one state.
Nationwide, the numbers are even more startling. Not every state is required to report on babies born alive – in fact, only a handful are. These states that are required to report this data have documented that, since 2016, at least 40 babies who survived their in-utero attacks and were born breathing. Imagine what the real number is, including the other dozens of states not required to share that information.

As a nation of civilized human beings, this should entail an outcry of monumental proportions.
Fox News reported: “The most recent information comes from Minnesota, which reported in June that three infants were born alive in 2018 after induced termination of a pregnancy. That brings the state total to 11 since 2016. Arizona reported 10 in 2017 and Florida had 19 such instances since 2017. Nationally, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 143 cases between 2003 and 2014 of infants born after attempted abortions, though those figures may be incomplete.”
So, for those not keeping up with the math, that’s about 183 babies born alive after failed abortions since 2003.
And whoever doesn’t automatically assume that those numbers are incomplete hasn’t been paying attention. A wise man once said, “You can’t practice vice virtuously.” An industry that makes its millions on the back of scandal, pain, & death is probably not real meticulous in their record-keeping… especially when it makes them look worse.
Connor Semelsberger, legislative assistant with the pro-life Family Research Council, noted that legislation protecting babies born alive passed with strong bipartisan support in battleground states such as Minnesota and Michigan, which “shows real contrast with the Democratic Party at the national level and at the state level.”
He’s spot-on. Suggesting that babies born alive deserve medical care should be as bipartisan as issues come. But not at the federal level, since Planned Parenthood owns the Democratic Party and knows exactly where to spend their money. As a result, liberal politicians on Capitol Hill have gone ice-cold when it comes to anything having to do with the youngest among us.
We can only hope that Democrats at the state level remain somewhat moderate since we anticipate Roe v. Wade’s reversal, thus throwing the decision back to the states where it belongs.
The Takeaway?
There’s A LOT to be said on the politics of Born Alive Infant Protection. On this story, our heart goes out to those 183 (and most certainly more) moms who were already having the worst day of their lives and had their hearts broken even more. The abortion industry told them the “surgery” to “remove” these “clumps of cells” would be no more emotionally-charged than an ordinary root canal. But what happened in the abortion facility rooms for those 183 moms was not ordinary.
As a movement, we must continue to move forward and do everything we can to make abortion, and infanticide, unthinkable.
