75 abortion advocates wrote a greasy letter to the FDA telling them that the abortion pill, RU-486, is above common regulation. Abortion pill makers can be trusted; no worries. They can handle themselves. All other drugs, far less potent that this, are subject to safety standards. But when it comes to abortion? Nah, any sort of safety regulation “infringes on women’s rights.”
So yes, a handful of abortionists want FDA regulations dropped that are designed to protect women using the life-ending chemical abortion drugs that make up RU-486. Which is something they stand to profit from. Plus, when women are harmed by the drugs, it isn’t even the abortionists’ problem. Women go to actual medical offices to be treated following these complications. Abortionists wash their hands of them the second they walk out the door. It’s a win-win-win-win for people who make their living aborting babies.
What if 75 restaurant owners got together and wrote a letter to the Health Department saying, “Remove your kitchen sanitation standards! Requiring us to keep hair out of the food and rats out of the inventory hinders our ability to do business. We can regulate ourselves!”
The government would metaphorically laugh and say, “Yeah, right. The regulations are in place to protect the consumer since businesses with a financial incentive can’t be trusted to do the right thing ‘just because’.”
Oh, but since it’s abortion, it gets special treatment. Who cares about removing safety regulation from extremely powerful drugs if it’s abortion we’re talking about?
Students for Life of America President Kristan Hawkins said, “If women’s lives were not at stake, this would be laughable rather than the pathetic act of a profit-hungry operation. Knowing that women’s lives are at stake, the abortion lobby still wants to do less to protect them. It’s no surprise that abortionists and their lobby want an end to FDA restrictions designed to protect women. Women have died using the chemical abortion drug RU-486 when later in pregnancy, experiencing an ectopic pregnancy or when the abortion was not completed and infection sets in. An actual physical examination is needed to check on these things. But of course, the abortion lobby wants to keep costs low and profits high by cutting out actual engagement with women.
“Abortionists like to hide behind the Constitution when asked to act like real medical facilities, and then they like to fundraise as healthcare advocates. But they can’t have it both ways. Students for Life of America will be calling on the FDA to hold firm and protect women exposed to life-ending drugs.”
News flash: the baby dies either way. If mothers use these drugs as safely as possible, the baby dies. If mothers use these drugs in a way that is riskier to their own safety, the baby still dies. The abortion industry’s fight to remove any and all safety regulation only has the woman to harm. It’s completely slimy, no one is talking about it, and their careless anti-woman agenda has to be exposed.
