A letter released by the Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts announces that the Fitchburg Planned Parenthood will shut down, in a victory for pro-life activists in the state. A cached version of its website says it offers abortion services, meaning it commits abortions.
What is interesting is that the state, including its Republican governor, have made a big show of how it is supposedly standing up to the Trump administration and spending taxpayer dollars on abortion and birth control (Planned Parenthood uses taxpayer dollars for birth control to subsidize its abortion business). Yet, the business model wasn’t working, and an abortion facility had to shut down.
In March 2019, Governor Charlie Baker signed legislation giving $8 million to abortion facilities that were set to lose money under the new Protect Life Rule instituted by the Trump administration, which bars $60 million in Title X family planning funds from going to abortion vendors.
According to MassLive.com, “The bill is a reaction to President Donald Trump’s proposed changes to Title X, a federal program that provides money to family planning clinics. Trump’s proposal tightens abortion-related restrictions on the use of the money by banning federally funded health clinics from providing referrals to abortion clinics and requiring a physical separation between a clinic that gets federal funding and one that performs abortion.”
That rule won a major victory yesterday in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.
In response to that victory, Students for Life of America President Kristan Hawkins made the following remarks: “Once again, the Trump Administration shows their commitment to severing the funding stream that has flowed from taxpayers to Planned Parenthood’s bloated coffers. People don’t want to be in business with the nation’s number one abortion vendor, and if Planned Parenthood wants to provide family planning services, then rules are in place to make sure that the focus stay on family, not abortion.”
We know that issues like government funding for abortion and Title X will come up this election cycle. Make sure to be armed with the facts by tuning in to Kristan Hawkins’ latest podcast episode.
