On Friday, the Students for Life group at the University of Alabama-Birmingham planned a group outing to peacefully witness outside their local Planned Parenthood. GPS may have led the students to a different location than they were expecting, but after what happened, it’s clear they were meant to be there.
The Students for Life leaders reported the following:
“We decided to spend our Friday morning attending a vigil at the local Planned Parenthood. Upon arriving, we realized we went to the wrong location–everyone else met at the existing facility downtown, but we went to the new Planned Parenthood construction site instead. We decided to stay and pray anyway.
Soon after we started, we witnessed a young man walk into the gated construction site to inspect the area. We weren’t sure if he was associated with the building project in any way, but we prayed intentionally for his heart. After debating for a few moments on whether or not to approach him, we decided to meet him as he was leaving the site.
The young man turned out to be very friendly and approachable, and he introduced himself as one of the construction workers assigned to the new project. We told him why we were praying outside of his job-site, and he immediately remarked that he had no idea that the existing infrastructure was a future Planned Parenthood abortion facility. He was shocked that such a project was even underway.
He began to express well-thought out values for every human’s right to life as he briefly shared his own story about his parents’ decision to afford him the opportunity to experience life. Our friend pointed out that his parents could have made any number of decisions that would have prevented his existence, but they didn’t–they chose life as well.
Even though he would lose his current job on that site, the man told us that he could not be a part of this project.
We expressed our support for his decision, and he shared encouragement towards us in return.
Just two blocks down from this future Planned Parenthood site, a new shelter for homeless men in downtown Birmingham is also being built. Fortunately, we were able to encourage and connect our friend with a possible opportunity to serve there. Firehouse Shelter has given life and endless opportunities to the individuals in our city, amazing gifts which Planned Parenthood will never been able to provide to neither men nor women. We are overjoyed that our new friend will potentially apply his talents to build a home full of life… just down the street from a place that will only bring death.”
