Americans in positions of power generally have a bad habit of going deaf and blind when abortion providers (and supporters) behave badly. Gosnell was killing women and born-alive, full-term kids. Abortion fanatics are physically attacking pro-life people left and right. Hormonal birth control and abortion itself are risk factors for cancer. But it’s women’s healthcare. It’s feminism. The progressive, right to choose, clump of cells, “safe legal & rare” normal procedure that’s been empowering women since 1973.
In other words, abortion lobbyists and advocates are so rich and ruthless that lawmakers typically go belly-up and heed their abortion-worshiping demands out of fear.
BUT NOT THIS TIME.
Last week, over 100 lawmakers put on their metaphorical body armor and wrote a letter demanding that the FDA crack down on the illegal online sales of abortion drugs.
A crazy notion, that we should warn American women against the illegal sale of dangerous drugs that they can buy online from sketchy pill-pushers. There are organizations (most notably Aid Access) that want to endanger women and terminate gestating humans so badly that they exist & function by exploiting obscure legal loopholes. As a wise man once said, “You can’t practice vice virtuously.”
A total of 118 Members of Congress signed on to the letter, led by Rep. Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX) and Rep. Martha Roby (R-AL).
“As an OB/GYN who practiced medicine for nearly three decades, I am concerned about the consequences of unapproved mail-order abortion drugs,” said Rep. Burgess. “The dangerous business that Aid Access is conducting is harmful to the health of American women, who deserve quality health care throughout the course of a pregnancy. I am grateful for the actions of Dr. Sharpless and his predecessor Dr. Gottlieb to stop illicit drug importation, and I urge the FDA to continue this lifesaving work.”
Asking the FDA via polite letter is a good first step in controlling the soon-to-be epidemic that is toilet abortions. But it’s only the beginning. At least 24 women have died following abortion pill complications since it was initially approved by the FDA, and the first-hand reviews aren’t exactly glowing.
An abortion pill survivor named Norine shared her story:
Nothing… had prepared me for the searing, gripping, squeezing pain that ripped through my belly 30 minutes later. I couldn’t even form words when Stewart [her boyfriend] called to check on me. It was all I could do to gasp, “Come home! Now!” … I was disoriented, nauseated, and, between crushing waves of contractions, that I imagine were close to what labor feels like, racing from the bed to the bathroom with diarrhea.
I had been prepared for the possibility that the pill wouldn’t work…. I also knew that I might bleed so heavily I need surgery to stop it… [But] what blindsided me… [were the] huge, cystic boils that soon covered my neck, shoulders, and back. I was also overcome by fatigue… I couldn’t work. On top of all that came depression; I sobbed constantly. I wouldn’t leave the house. I stopped showering.
Afterwards, she was basically told by her doctor to just get over it.
It seems like this should go without saying, but… women do not deserve this. There are too many stories like this where women were NOT told beforehand how intensely RU-486 attacks the body in order to kill the baby. We have all the problems in the world with a drug specifically designed to kill babies, but betraying and endangering women is unacceptable.
Thank you, Congress, for taking a step to ensure that women are kept safe from dangerous drugs pushed online.
