“The Alabama Legislator’s comments unmask the abortion mentality that devalues human potential in the womb and even for some children once born. It simply shows the end result of the abortion mentality, which says that some lives are worth more than others, depending on who is pregnant. But abortion is the human rights issue of our day and the Pro-Life Generation will fight for women and their preborn infants.”
Kristan Hawkins, President, Students for Life of America
A very high-caliber abortion ban just passed in the Alabama House of Representatives. And Alabama Democrats displayed all of the crassness, insanity, and ruthlessness that we expected. So, ladies and gentlemen, what went down here?
Pro-life State Rep. Terri Collins sponsored the bill (House Bill 314) which criminalizes abortions in Alabama except for ‘life of the mother’ cases. Rep. Collins noted the bill “makes it a criminal offense to perform an abortion as a doctor. The woman would be held blameless.” The bill is being referred to as the Alabama Human Life Protection Act, directly challenging Roe’s assessment that preborn people don’t have human rights.
And then, pro-abortion Democrats’ minds exploded.
A pro-abortion protester was arrested in the House Gallery by Capitol Police after she threw paint at the glass… and at the police.
Several Democrats tried amending the bill to either make it more pro-abortion or require state legislators to foot the bill for defending the law. When they didn’t get their way, most of them walked out.
“Some children are just unwanted. You either kill them now or you kill them later in the electric chair,” Catholic, “personally pro-life” Representative John Rogers said. Let’s just add him to Andrew Cuomo’s church directory.
State Rep. Rolanda Hollis, D-Birmingham, read a poem, “If my vagina was a gun you would protect its rights…” Now we’re reading rude poetry at a serious political gathering, equating genitalia and other (completely unrelated) political issues. Because they’re just mad about everything, all at once, all the time.
The politician who previously mentioned killing unwanted children also said, “I may bring a bill to force all men to have vasectomies. That would end this whole debate. There would be no more abortions and eventually no more voters.” Going for an Oscar, perhaps?
And, because he couldn’t stop making a complete fool of himself, Rogers continued, “Some parents can’t handle a child with problems. It could be retarded. It might have no arms and no legs.” Note we’re still referring to “children” here. And now it’s okay to kill people based on physical/mental limitations. Catholics around the world are very proud.
So the bill passed 74 to 3 since a bunch of angry Democrats physically left after not getting their way. Almost as if… most people are pro-life, and elected pro-life legislators to protect preborn Americans…
BUT WAIT. THERE’S MORE.
Planned Parenthood and the ACLU, following this thing not going their way, bashed the bill’s sponsors for how much money this is going to cost Alabamans. Because of litigation. That Planned Parenthood and the ACLU are instigating.
Following the attention Representative Rogers got for his wild remarks, even Planned Parenthood Southeast was forced to make a disapproving statement, which they sent out on May 2nd. If your attitude towards babies is too radical for the country’s largest abortion vendor, you’re really off the rails.
SFLA President Kristan Hawkins’ full statement regarding the incident:
The Alabama Legislator’s comments unmasks the abortion mentality that devalues human potential in the womb and even for some children once born, and his remarks shows that the abortion lobby is comfortable with and even embraces the deaths of children they don’t value. The income level of a pregnant mother does not determine future worth, though we should do all we can to help people achieve their potential. His shameful remarks simply show end result of the abortion mentality, which says that some lives are worth more than others, depending on who is pregnant. But abortion is the human rights issue of our day and the Pro-Life Generation will fight for women and their preborn infants.
Good on you, State Rep. Collins and your 68 cosponsors. Just grab some popcorn, watch the circus that the pro-abortion defense has become, and keep fulfilling the will of the American people by protecting our most vulnerable citizens.
