Well okay, they didn’t give it a name, but they might as well have called it that.
According to a joint press release from Augustan College Republicans and Augustana LIFE Runners, groups at the South Dakota Lutheran university, a series of pro-life displays and programming were destroyed, interrupted, or messed with last week, including a Cemetery of the Innocents display (here we go again) and a TV showing an ultrasound.
According to the groups, last week was “Augustana Pro-Life Week”, which, “began with a Cemetery of Innocents constructed on the campus green. This included 130 pink and blue crosses, each representing 23 babies lost to abortion in America every day. It also included signs that listed statistics on abortion, such as the fetal heartbeat begins at 21 days. Within two hours of a group of 25 students setting up the Cemetery late Sunday night, a report was received from Campus Safety that crosses had been thrown into the street and signs had vandalized. The sign reading “Cemetery of Innocents” was ripped up and thrown into the street with the crosses.”
The groups also told us, “On Monday [April 8th], the pro-life groups set up a TV in the Commons that showed ultrasound video of the prenatal development process all day long. Unfortunately, the TV was found unplugged on three occasions throughout the afternoon. After the third instance, the pro-life groups had to give up continually resetting the TV, as there was no way to prevent students from unplugging it.”
On Tuesday, April 9th, Students for Life Regional Coordinator Stephanie Lugo held a presentation on Planned Parenthood Truth, discussing the unsanitary conditions in Planned Parenthood, as well as the generally poor record that Planned Parenthood has when it comes to protecting women’s health. A sign was stolen during the event.
Other events that week included a showing of the ‘Gosnell’ movie, a productive ‘Change My Mind’ event, where pro-life students invite conversations from students, faculty, and staff, playing off the popular segment done by conservative commentator and comedian Steven Crowder. The groups also hosted a debate with over 100 students.
This is not the first time the groups have faced harassment. Just a few months ago, in November, College Democrats created a frozen danger zone by pouring water in freezing temperature, over pro-life chalkings on the ground. Yes, in order to protest what they see as attacks on women’s health, they literally endangered the health of women (and men).
