Some California Legislators Want Students To Call Planned Parenthood When They Are Pregnant
Every year it’s fascinating to see what new way states like California will find to push abortion on to students. Last year it was SB-320, now SB-24, which would force public colleges in the state to hand out free RU-486 abortion drugs on campus. This year, California is considering legislation that would put the phone number of a ‘reproductive health provider’ on all school identification cards of students from ages 12-24, even forcing private, Christian schools to provide these phone numbers.
According to the California Family Council, “A new member of the California State Assembly is trying real hard to reward Planned Parenthood for an endorsement and a $4400 campaign contribution he received last year. Assemblyman Jesse Gabriel recently introduced AB 624 , a bill that could put Planned Parenthood’s phone number in the pocket of every California student age 12 – 24…..This new law would not just apply to the ID cards issued by public middle school, high school, and colleges, but for all private (including Christian) educational institutions as well. This isn’t going to sit well with parents and private school educators who vehemently oppose abortion and the sexual behavior promoted by Planned Parenthood. On top of this, legal experts say the legislation is clearly unconstitutional.”
Bernadette Tasy, a Students for Life leader at Fresno State University added, “Planned Parenthood should not be in our schools, and students should not be encouraged to go to Planned Parenthood. When students, especially young students are pregnant or have questions about health care, they should turn to their parents and real doctors, not Planned Parenthood’s abortion mills for help.”
This is not the only bad legislation that Students for Life and Students for Life Action is fighting this year. Other legislation includes:
- Testifying against legislation in Maryland that would legalize Physician Assisted Suicide
- Fighting against SB 24 in California, which would force public colleges to hand out free RU-486 drugs to any student that wanted them
- Opposing Planned Parenthood’s sex ed curriculum takeover in places such as Washington and Colorado
- Mobilizing against extreme New York-style legislation in states like New Mexico, Illinois, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts
Young people are the pro-life movement’s most powerful asset. Students for Life of America has been building the infrastructure for national outreach for the last 12 years, training more than 70,000 student activists and supporting more than 1,200 groups in all 50 states. Launching Students for Life Action provides an opportunity to deploy these energetic, passionate young people to the front-lines of the battlefield, where the abortion industry has identified they are the most vulnerable — state-level politics.
Students for Life Action will empower and utilize our pro-life movement’s best, untapped resource — an army of young people across the nation — to pass legislation and ensure key state political victories to make abortion unprofitable, restrict abortion, and prepare for a post-Roe America.
