“The tragedy today is that even though a majority of Senators voted to protect infants born alive during an abortion, the new math of the Congress means this is still a loss,” said SFLA’s Kristan Hawkins.
WASHINGTON D.C. (02-25-19) – Students for Life of America President Kristan Hawkins called Sen. Ben Sasse’s Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act “the bare minimum standard for valuing infant life, as everyone should be able to look at a baby born during an abortion and understand that a humane response is required.”
She continued: “The tragedy today is that even though a majority of Senators voted to protect infants born alive during an abortion, the ‘new math’ of the Congress means this is still a loss, as even with 53 in favor to 44 against the 60 vote supermajority was not reached. Those senators who voted against this bill that obviously protects human beings will have a lot to answer for when they face the voters.”
In a poll recently commissioned by Students for Life of America, about 7 in 10 Millennials – now the nation’s largest voting bloc – supported limits on abortion. Significantly, the poll also found that only 7 percent shared the position of the Democratic Party Platform – abortion without any exceptions and funded by tax dollars.
“With our new c4 in place, Students for Life Action is ready to take this debate to the grassroots where we have more than 1,200 groups on college and university chapters in all 50 states,” said Hawkins. “Too many important votes are forgotten, but this one won’t be. These kinds of tactics in which a win is a loss can disillusion voters, but allowing infants to die after being born alive will rally pro-life Americans when it counts.”
