(VIDEO) Fresno State Vandal Caught on Camera Tearing Down Flyers
FRESNO, CA and FREDERICKSBURG, VA (4-15-18)–
The Fresno State Police Department is investigating an incident that occurred around 8:15 am on Tuesday, April 10th at Fresno State University in the Engineering East Building. Members of Students for Life were putting up flyers to oppose SB-320, legislation in California that would mandate abortion drugs such as RU-486 to be freely distributed through campus health centers.
One student was caught on camera tearing down flyers. When confronted, the student told SFL members to “Go to Hell.”
Bernadette Tasy, president of Fresno State Students for Life, and a co-plaintiff in a successful free-speech lawsuit against Fresno State University professor Greg Thatcher, stated, “I am appalled that students believe they can silence speech they disagree with. We should be able to freely participate in the marketplace of ideas on our university campus, just as other clubs and organizations do each day. Flyering is one of the most effective ways to bring awareness to the hard work that any group does on campus and in our community, so for us, it should be no different. The answer is never to silence free speech and prevent a group from expressing their views. We should be welcoming differing ideas and viewpoints in order contribute to the marketplace of ideas.”
Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America added, “Fresno State Students for Life does not let other people prevent them for promoting a culture of life, whether it is Professor Thatcher or the student in this video. We are glad to hear the Fresno State Police Department is investigating the matter and is likely soon to apprehend this vandal.”
