This coming Saturday, February 11th, pro-lifers from across the nation will be standing in solidarity outside of Planned Parenthood facilities to demand attention from legislative leaders and let them know that majorities of Americans do not want their tax dollars funding abortion and Planned Parenthood, which is essentially is Abortion, Inc. They commit one of every three abortions nationally.
President Trump promised to defund Planned Parenthood and redirect the funds to community health centers that do not commit abortions. Dozens of Congressmen and Senators also ran on that same platform. It’s time to deliver.
Since there is one Planned Parenthood facility in Springfield, Missouri, we decided as a group (MSU Bears for Life) to take part in this event and host our own rally. We are so blessed to have received support from groups around the area who are just as excited as we are to show everyone the pro-life presence here in Southwest Missouri.
I can’t tell you how many times I have been asked, “Why would you want to hurt women by defunding Planned Parenthood, their only source of care?”
As a college-aged woman, I understand how important it is to have access to affordable and safe healthcare. Although most people believe that Planned Parenthood is the only place for women to get quality healthcare, that is simply not true.
Any service that is provided at Planned Parenthood (except abortion) can also be found at one of the countless Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs). Plus, many offer lots more, including mammograms (yes, mammograms, something Planned Parenthood does not offer), comprehensive prenatal care and preventative care, and other family health services.
This is why I undoubtedly oppose giving my tax dollars to this company.
On top of the hundreds of abortions that Planned Parenthood commits daily, they also have been caught consistently lying to women just like me.
On Saturday, I will be standing for the unborn, yes. But even more so, I will be a peaceful reminder that women deserve better. No matter who you are or what you are going through, each life (born and unborn) deserves respect and dignity.
Planned Parenthood, which only operates for a profit, diminishes that dignity in women by undermining their strength and intelligence. The truth is, they gain from the vulnerability of men and women who are in desperate situations. Despite the misleading “pro-choice” affiliation, there is no choice being given to women at their clinics.
For me, this is a matter of empowering women and showing them that they have strength within them that does not depend on Planned Parenthood.
If you would like to join me in celebrating life and women across the country, there hundreds of rallies happening on Saturday- find one near you at this link.
If you live in the Springfield area, we will be gathering outside the PP off of Battlefield from 9:30am-11:00am on Saturday morning.
Besides showing up for the rally, you can also call your legislators and sign online petitions to show your support of defunding Planned Parenthood.
Lastly, keep praying! You never know the power of a prayer, which is why I beg you to keep all of the unborn babies and their mothers in your prayers every day. I am confident that with a generation that believes so fervently in women and life, we will soon see a nation that gives women the respect they so rightly deserve.
