The US House of Representatives passed the reconciliation bill that strips Planned Parenthood out of a good chunk of their federal funds. The bill passed the Senate and will now go to the President’s desk. Please see below for a statement from Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America, the nation’s largest youth pro-life organization which works with 930 student pro-life groups on campus:
“Congress finally got clever and used a creative method to ensure that Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion chain, doesn’t receive the millions of taxpayer dollars it has over the past several years and instead, redirects that money to actual healthcare organizations that serve women instead of putting a price tag on them and their preborn babies. While Planned Parenthood deserves to be permanently defunded following revelations that they likely made a profit off of selling the body parts of aborted babies, any bill that halts a significant portion of their funding should be commended.
“It is unconscionable that government funds continue to flood an organization like Planned Parenthood when there are thousands of other women’s health organizations that do not commit abortions. Planned Parenthood should be forced to raise their funds entirely through private donations like any other non-profit and not rely on taxpayers for the majority of their revenue – President Obama’s schedule will be free soon enough to help his favorite organization raise money privately. By then, hopefully Americans will have voted in a pro-life president who will immediately defund Planned Parenthood.”
