Planned Parenthood President Apologizes for Organization’s Racist Past: But What About Its Present… and Future?

STOP THE PRESSES. Planned Parenthood boss Alexis McGill Johnson has evidently discovered the racist roots of Corporate Abortion… but has not yet come to terms with its current racist business structure targeting communities of color.  In an op-ed at the New York Times, McGill Johnson wrote:  “Up until now, Planned Parenthood has failed to own the impact of our founder’s actions,” Alexis McGill Johnson wrote. “We have defended Sanger as a protector of bodily autonomy and self-determination, while excusing her association with white supremacist groups and eugenics as an unfortunate ‘product of her time.’”   As a reminder, Planned Parenthood kills 972 innocent children of every race and background every single

Embracing some controversy this semester? #worthit

“We’re a liberal school, why are you here?” liberal A quick Google definition of the word liberal leads me to believe these students aren’t entirely sure who they are:vcu Open to new opinions other than their own?  Broadening general knowledge and experience? Not so much at VCU!  Let’s take this woman for example. Instead of respectfully showing tolerance for the free speech rights of others, she raised her voice over students who tried to explain their position. Instead of embracing women empowerment and the working mom, she told me that I brought my baby to campus on purpose to invoke emotions.  (Hmmm… why would a baby do that?) Instead of calmly discussing her side, which we were open and ready to listen to, she gave the middle finger to me while I held my daughter Lucy. However, the prize for most closed-minded individual goes to this man here. Watch the vcu1video of our exchange below. Upon one look at the #PPSellsBabyParts banner, he shouted that we were all liars and the videos were a hoax.  There have been a number of other students claiming the videos are fake, but most students stop and take time to have a discussion.  They take into consideration important details such as:

  • The CEO of Planned Parenthood issued an apology in response to the videos. She acknowledged they were real.
  • Three Congressional committees have called for an Investigation into the videos. Very important people are taking these seriously.
  • Planned Parenthood has now changed its fetal tissue donation system in response to the videos.
  • A non-biased forensic report from Coalfire revealed the videos were not deceptively edited. The videos show intact quotes (see what I did there?) of Planned Parenthood directors explaining the cost of body parts based on quality, not shipping reimbursement.  Doctors explaining how their main focus during an abortion procedure is not women’s safety, but how best to procure intact organs of the babies they’re crushing.
I patiently stood with copies of the forensic report in my hand while this man yelled in our faces interrupting every response we offered.  I was also holding my four-month-old, Lucy, when another woman rushed over to stand in between him and the baby. He drew a crowd of over 50 students.  Many whipped out their phones to record his rant.  Anyone looking from afar could see how irrational and unreasonable he was acting, and how patient the pro-life students were as they stood by.  Finally, campus police issued him away to calm him down. The crowd stuck around and those willing to come up and talk afterwards had amazing conversations with us.  Most students I spoke with walked away shaking hands with our team and thanking us for being prepared with information and a calm attitude. As a Regional Coordinator with Students for Life of America, I have a message for student groups out there questioning what display or event to consider having on campus this year: I know some student groups would see this and instantly be scared to embrace such controversy.  Imagine having what feels like your entire university crowding around filming while you take on the brunt of someone so unreasonable.  But with so many lives lost and families destroyed by abortion every day, isn’t this a cause that is worth it? I am proud to work with the students at Virginia Commonwealth University who not only stuck it out, but responded in a loving and patient way.  Students who had originally planned to head out to study for an exam or write a paper, sacrificed the rest of their day to stay and hold meaningful life-changing conversations.  These students broke every stereotype the pro-life position is so often burdened with.  These students met with a young mom, a junior at VCU trying to raise her two-year-old while also getting her education, and trading information so that they could bless her with resources for her son.  These students came out stronger and better because of the controversy they embraced.
