Immaculate Heart of Mary School Pro-Life League – Massachusetts
Massachusetts became the center of the abortion debate earlier this year with the passing of its unconstitutional “buffer zone” laws that restricted peaceful Sidewalk Counselors from standing withing 20 feet of the state’s abortion facilities. The Pro-Life community challenged the laws because they were refused access to public sidewalks under these restrictions. The Supreme Court ruled in our favors saying that Massachusetts can not place buffers around the abortion facilities and restrict access to public sidewalks, allowing Sidewalk Counselors to resume their amazing work of helping women and saving lives.
In the heart of the Massachusetts pro-life movement is the Immaculate Heart of Mary School’s Pro-Life League. “IHM has been in the battle for the unborn for many, many years,” says Principal Br. Thomas Augustine, “praying outside abortion mills, going to pro-life rallies as well as staging its own regularly here at school, walks, fundraising, participating in 40 Days campaigns, etc. We charter a bus every year for the Right to Life March and have a day dedicated to the memory of Terri Schiavo.”.
As part of their involvement with the local 40 Days for Life Campaign, IMH Pro-Life League issued a challenge to the other schools to join them. Instead of asking students to pour ice on their heads, IMH Pro-Life League called on other high schools in the area to pray. Watch their prayer challenge video below:
According to Br. Augustine, Trivium School, Assumption College, and the College of Holy Cross accepted the challenge. Saint Thomas Aquinas School also joined the peaceful prayer vigil.
Because of their passion for prayer and willingness to move other high school students to action, IMH Pro-Life League has been named Students for Life of America’s October High School Group of the Month and will be awarded a $25 Visa Gift Card! Way to go, IMH Pro-Life League!
