Komen to Planned Parenthood: Let’s See Other People
While Planned Parenthood reels over the “bitter rift” caused by Susan G. Komen’s decision to stop funding the largest abortion provider in the country, pro-life advocates across the nation continue to celebrate the end of a relationship born into what was assumed to be a similar mission – the advancement of women’s healthcare.
But with Planned Parenthood’s continual battle to maintain their multi-million dollar annual funds and erase the ever-growing negative stigma they’ve garnered over the past 12 months, Komen’s highly publicized leap from the abortion industry is making waves.
In what Cecile Richards, President of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, has deemed anything but an amicable split, the facts and figures are becoming clearer – Planned Parenthood’s tired guise of “women’s healthcare” is a monumental lie used to usher in and legitimize four decades of legalized murder in what has become the worst social injustice our nation has ever faced.
What many don’t know, however, are the gritty details surrounding this immense advancement within the pro-life movement. In an unsurprising demonstration by the media, they have failed to outline exactly why Komen has decided to strip funds from the organization that performs hundreds of thousands of abortions each year.
Komen’s decision to cut ties with Planned Parenthood are twofold. The investigations surrounding Planned Parenthood’s legality, funding, and medical practices step on the toes of Komen’s own guidelines, which state that no funding from their organization can go toward a group undergoing an investigation. False rumors have already started to swirl regarding Komen’s ability to refund the abortion giant once the investigations end, but make no mistake: Komen has stated that their decision to defund Planned Parenthood is final. This is not temporary.
But much more importantly, Komen has changed their grant distribution criteria, which more solidly justifies their defunding of Planned Parenthood. In the past, the organization received “pass-through” grants from Komen for breast exams – the kind you can do yourself in the privacy of your own home. Now, Komen is setting their sights on outcome-based programs, which would permanently end their funding to Planned Parenthood if and when all investigations end.
Planned Parenthood knows Komen’s detachment from them is permanent, and they’re doing everything they can to legitimize themselves and point fingers away from their scandal. Planned Parenthood alerted the AP before the remaining five contractual grants from Komen have been distributed, which should be finalized within the next few months. Planned Parenthood’s vicious attacks against Komen are only solidifying the rift between the two organizations.
While we celebrate this great victory for the pro-life movement and for all individuals involved in the decision, it is crucial that we let Susan G. Komen know we support their decision to defund Planned Parenthood. As of now, Komen has received thousands of emails condemning their decision and only a handful in support of the split. Media bias is working against this wonderful news, and it’s up to us to maintain their support.
We encourage you to please write an email of thanks supporting Susan G. Komen in their decision to defund Planned Parenthood to [email protected]. Please take five minutes today to let them know that millions of Americans across the nation recognize their true mission to advance women’s healthcare.
Let us work together to celebrate this wonderful victory!
