Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — Leading pro-life organizations are mounting their final attack on the nomination of pro-abortion Solicitor general Elena Kagan to replace retiring pro-abortion Justice John Paul Stevens on the Supreme Court. The criticisms come as the Senate Judiciary Committee begins hearings today.
Several groups, including Concerned Women for America and Students for Life are participating in a morning press conference at the Senate and urging lawmakers to oppose her bid for the high court.
The American Center for Law and Justice called on the Senate Judiciary Committee to fully examine Kagan’s judicial philosophy.
“It’s time for tough, probing questions and clear, thorough answers,” said Jay Sekulow, chief counsel for the pro-life legal organization.
“There are many questions facing the Supreme Court nominee – perhaps none more important than: does she consider the Constitution the final authority or will she legislate from the bench? With no judicial experience, the Senate Judiciary Committee must pose specific questions about her legal positions of the past and her judicial philosophy – how does she view the role of Justices, the Constitution, and the rule of law?” he said.
Sekulow said, “The American people deserve forthright answers from Elena Kagan during the confirmation hearings.”
Americans United for Life released a statement today saying Kagan should be opposed because its research into her writings and backgrounds reveals she will promote abortion on the Supreme Court if confirmed.
“Kagan is a staunchly pro-abortion ideologue who has devoted her life to serving pro-abortion political candidates, judges, and office-holders. Further, on multiple occasions she has used her positions to voice opposition to the most widely accepted regulations of abortion,” AUL says.
“Solicitor General Kagan’s record is a jigsaw puzzle. However, when the pieces come together, the picture is bleak for the Constitution and protections for innocent life,” AUL continues. “Our concern is not simply that Kagan will be another judge who supports upholding Roe v. Wade. Rather, we are concerned that even the most widely-accepted regulations on abortion will not withstand her review.”
“Kagan’s disregard for the value of human life at its most vulnerable stage creates concerns about how she will consider common sense abortion regulations and other cases that will come before the Court. She is deeply hostile to protecting the unborn, even when abortion is not an issue,” the pro-life legal group said. Pro-life groups have described Elena Kagan as the stereotypical judicial activist and abortion advocate. She clerked for pro-abortion Justice Thurgood Marshall, whom she lauded, and her writings dating back to her college days are filled with accolades for judges who took the law into their hands and twisted it for a desired outcome rather than relying on the people through their elected officials.
Kagan helped Bill Clinton defend his veto of a partial-birth abortion ban — the gruesome abortion procedure when a baby is birthed halfway and then jabbed in the head with medical scissors, killing him or her. She helped Clinton find political cover for his decision to keep those abortions legal.
Kagan went as far as advocating that the Clinton administration not only ignore but manipulate the opinion of a national medical group that said there was never any medical justification for killing unborn children halfway out of the birth canal.
Kagan has also lauded human cloning and assisted suicide and we can expect those gruesome practices to expand if she becomes the next Supreme Court justice.
