“What is tragic is that more lives will be lost because the Biden Administration wanted to make it easier to deliver death by mail,” said Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins. “What’s convenient and profitable for Corporate Abortion isn’t best for women and preborn children, who will pay the ultimate price.”

WASHINGTON D.C. (04-13-2021) – In reaction a letter sent by acting FDA Commissioner Dr. Janet Woodcock indicating new, weakened health and safety standards will be applied to Chemical Abortion pills and sent to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists about their COVID-oriented lawsuit against the FDA, demanding that health and safety standards for abortion-causing Chemical Abortion pills be dropped, Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins made the following statement:

“The Biden Administration makes catastrophic loss of life by mail its legacy in choosing to weaken the minimal health and safety in place to protect women from the deadly consequences of Chemical Abortion Pills. Sending deadly pills through the mail without any pre-screening or follow up care is convenient and cost effect for Corporate Abortion, but women will pay the price along with countless preborn infants.

“This administration follows in the reckless footsteps of first Bill Clinton who forced a deadly concoction of pills on the market that now ends more than 40 percent of preborn life from abortion and later Barack Obama who permitted the health and safety standards first recommended to be weakened.

“The FDA Acting Commissioner’s letter indicating an end to the in-person dispensing requirement for deadly Chemical Abortion pills callously notes that while there are ‘limitations’ to the studies that have examined the deadly drugs, ‘increases in serious safety concerns’ don’t seem to rise if women are left alone. Such dismissive language doesn’t change the fact that some women will experience dangerous bleeding, infection, loss of future fertility and maybe even their lives.

“As acting FDA Commissioner Janet Woodcock once testified in 2006, women have died and been injured ingesting these chemicals. The parsed language of her letter downplays all the reason for greater medical engagement. We know that‘the chemicals have four times the complications of surgical abortion, can cause dangerous complications later in pregnancy and in ectopic pregnancies, and can harm women’s future fertility if handed out without proper screening and treatment for blood type. They also pose a risk to women if abusers get hold of the drugs to force on women, sometimes without their knowledge or consent.”

“It will not comfort grieving people when women abandoned to the complications and death of Chemical Abortion pills are told that their suffering is as ‘expected’ with such drugs, which is how Woodcock responded to concerns about the complications when she faced questions from Congress in 2006. But what is tragic is that more lives will be lost because the Biden Administration wanted to make it easier to deliver death by mail.”

Students for Life Action has been a leader in the fight against the reckless distribution of Chemical Abortion pills for years, including our opposition to their mandatory sale through California public university and college campus health centers. Since then SFLA and SFLAction have engaged in education at ThisIsChemicalAbortion.com as well as fighting for legislation in more than 10 states and counting. Just yesterday, Hawkins, Montana Sen. Steve Daines and SFLAction Chief Media and Policy Strategist Kristi Hamrick discussed the need to act quickly to address the possibility of a new, reckless distribution plan for Chemical Abortion pills. To view, click here.
