Statement on Vandalism at UT-San Antonio
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS and FREDERICKSBURG, VA (4-3-18)–
Around 9 am on Friday, March 30th, pro-life students at UTSA noticed someone stole a pro-life sign put up by UTSA Students For the Right to Life, promoting an upcoming speech by pro-life speaker and former Planned Parenthood director Abby Johnson (held on Monday, April 2nd).
The signs, which had been approved by the university, had been hanging since Monday, March 26th, in the McKinney Humanities Building. The theft has been reported to campus police.
Sean Gillen, president UTSA Students For the Right to Life said in a statement, “The fact that are signs are being taken means people are reading them! The event will go on and I hope whoever took the sign comes and hears Abby Johnson speak. Everyone is welcome at our events no matter what you think of the pro-life position. Instead of taking our signs down, come talk to us!”.
In the past year, five signs from the group have been taken down.
Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America said, “The theft showcases that the pro-abortion groups
have no real case to make;they have to resort to crimes to prevent others from makingtheir points. But the Pro-life generation will not be silenced. We are so glad to see our students fighting back against the anti-free speech actions at their school. We call on the school to fully investigate the matter.”
