ASU STUDENT GROUP TO HOST FIRST ‘PREGNANT ON CAMPUS’ WEEK
The Arizona State University Students for Life group in Phoenix, Arizona is planning their first ever Pregnant on Campus Week set for March 13-16. The week is geared towards educating students about their rights on campus should they become pregnant, offering practical resources for pregnant and parenting students, and providing support and encouragement for moms facing unplanned pregnancies.
“The chosen ‘motto’ for Pregnant on Campus Week is ‘fearlessly pursuing family and education,’” said Mariah Martinez, chair of the ASU Pregnant on Campus Initiative under Students for Life. “Our initiative exists to be a light of hope, empowerment, community, and resources for those students who find themselves pregnant and about to be a parent while completing their degree. Whether informing them about their Title IX rights, pointing them to local pregnancy resource centers for low-cost prenatal care, informing them on the resources ASU already offers, or simply being there for emotional support, the Pregnant on Campus Initiative recognizes that pregnancy while going to school is a real occurrence, and we want to celebrate both.”
Pregnant on Campus Week will consist of several table displays at Hayden Lawn, a central part of ASU, featuring information on resources available. This includes breastfeeding rooms on campus and childcare options, to name a few. There will also be another area set up to take donations for their baby shower drive to aid pregnant moms on campus. Information will be available for students to learn about Title IX rights and local resources they may have never heard about before.
The Family Resources department at ASU will be present to discuss what aid the school already offers to students with families. And those who attend the event will be encouraged to jump right into the movement: they can take photos with graduation-themed props behind an “I support pregnant and parenting students!” frame to post to social media or write an encouraging letter to a pregnant or parenting peer. And if they’re curious to learn more, they can even walk through the basic steps of fetal development.

The Pregnant on Campus Initiative was founded by Students for Life of America, the nation’s largest pro-life youth organization that works with over 1,100 high school and college groups. Pregnant on Campus houses the only national website with searchable resources for pregnant and parenting students at over 500 schools and was an initiative born out of the passionate desires of students to help their peers facing unplanned pregnancies on campus.
“Pregnant and parenting students should never feel forced to choose between their children and their education,” said Beth Rahal, National Director of the Pregnant on Campus Initiative at Students for Life of America. “Pregnant on Campus student leaders come alongside their peers in some of the most vulnerable and challenging moments of their peers’ lives, and they actively support them in both their personal and educational goals. Student groups, like ASU Students for Life, are passionate about empowering women to succeed as parents, as students, and as valuable members of our communities.”
