On Anniversary of Obamacare Passage, SFLA to Host Annual Banquet

Date Posted March 21, 2011

“How can we expect righteousness to prevail when there is hardly anyone willing to give himself up individually to a righteous cause. Such a fine, sunny day, and I have to go, but what does my death matter, if through us thousands of people are awakened and stirred to action?”

These are the last words of Sophie Scholl, a student who was executed with her brother, Hans, for speaking out and organizing against the Nazi regime in Germany during WWII. It is through their leadership in speaking out against injustice students on their campus were able to know about the truth about the Holocaust. Today, there are students just like Sophie and Hans across the country that continue to speak out against injustice on their campus.

This Thursday, the same week as the anniversary of the passage of Obamacare, Students for Life of America will host the 2nd Spring Banquet on Thursday, March 24th at 7pm at the Top of the Town in Arlington, Virginia (1400 14th Street North). We will honor one such student while also featuring national pro-life leaders: Congressman Andy Harris (R-MD) and David Bereit, National Director of 40 Days for Life.

The banquet comes as the first ever National Medical Students for Life Tour finishes after visiting 21 campuses across the country. Dominique Monlezun will be giving an update on the Tour and a current report of pro-life medical campuses.

Congressman Harris is a Freshman Congressman from Maryland who has served the nation as a pro-life leader in both in the medical field, the Navy Reserve, and the Maryland State Senate. Congressman Harris is a true pro-life hero, and SFLA is honored to have him speak at the banquet.

David Bereit is the National Coordinator for 40 Days for Life, and is currently leading the largest international 40 Days for Life campaign in history. David became an outspoken pro-life advocate after Planned Parenthood announced plans to build an abortion clinic in his Texas town in 1998. He helped start and build a local grassroots coalition that rallied 60 churches and thousands of people together and dramatically reduced abortions in the region. Since that time, 40 Days for Life has grown and now covers 337 cities in all 50 states, and many countries as well. SFLA is excited and honored to have David Bereit speak at the 2nd SFLA Spring Banquet.

The 2011 SFLA Spring Banquet will celebrate the successes of the youth pro-life movement and speak about SFLA’s strategy moving forward. Pro-life students are the future leaders of the pro-life movement and will be the ones to abolish abortion in their lifetime. SFLA will recognize these leaders, and thank them for their work this Thursday.
