It was announced today that Vanderbilt University is requiring nursing students to promise to assist in abortions before they can enroll in the nursing program.
In response to this Kristan Hawkins, Executive Director of Students for Life of America, commented:
“Vanderbilt University’s policy of requiring nurses to help perform abortions not only violates conscience protection but also places performance of abortion as a requirement for education. Students should not be forced to perform abortions or assist in performing them in order to obtain their degrees.”
Also, Dominique Monlezun, National Coordinator for Medical Students for Life of America responded with:
“We as Americans want affordable, accessible health care. Yet when we do not oppose universities’ policies discriminating against future ethical medical professionals, we attack our own health care by leaving our medical and nursing students open for attack. Medical Students for Life of America will be working with Vanderbilt to help them fight this discriminating policy and to help protect the future of life-respecting health care.”
