At a press conference earlier today, Kristan Hawkins, Executive Director of Students for Life made the following statement on ella, the new abortion drug:
“At Students for Life, we are very concerned about the possible FDA approval of ella. We are very concerned that they will not be protecting women, particularly college aged women who are going to be primary targets for the distribution of this drug. Make no mistake, if ella is approved, ella will be on the college campuses, it’s going to be in the family planning and the abortion facilities near college campuses. So we are very concerned about the protection of college aged women and getting out the information to them so they can make informed decisions.
We released today, along with the “ella Causes Abortions” Coalition, and thanks to the help of the FRC, a youtube video on ellacausesabortions.com. The video is a short segment of young college aged women asking questions about the safety of the drug and what the drug actually does. We think these questions need to be answered before the FDA approves any drug. This is that we are asking them to do. The site is www.ellacausesabortions.com.
We are going to continue our grassroots campaign with the national pro-life and pro-family organizations to get out the message that ella is not contraception, it is an abortion drug.”
